“Marvellous Macondo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Lucky us, we just spent two fun weeks in Sayulita, while staying at the Macondo Bungalows. We would not stay anywhere else, Chuck and Mel are helpful, friendly, accommodating hosts and the rooms are absolutely great. Our 1st week we stayed in the lovely Terrace Bungalow, which has an air conditioner in the bedroom, and three nice big double glass doors that open out onto a deck from the living room area. The 2nd week, we stayed in the Roof Top Garden Bungalow, which is a large open concept room, with only curtains closing off the bedroom. Both rooms had well equipped kitchens and were comfortable and nicely decorated with nice views of the street and roof tops. Next time we stay at the Macondo, we hope to stay in the Roof Top again, it was a really unique experience and is our most favourite. On a previous trip we stayed in the Sunrise Bungalow which is a smaller room, but nice and also very accommodating. We would actually stay in any room at Macondo, just so we could stay there, it’s so awesome!

We just returned home from 8 wonderful days in Sayulita and Macondo did not disappoint . The rooms are clean and eclectic , the grounds well kept, the open air environment welcoming, competitive rates and the amenities more than adequate . We had a blast with friends and at one point occupied 5 of 6 rooms our little group did. A great spot to go with a larger group if availability allows it . We had a great time getting to know Chuck and Mela nie ( the owners) who were nothing short of accommodating , helpful and kind. Would recommend to all!

It was my second trip to Sayulita and, based on all the great reviews, decided to stay at Macondo Bungalows. They have a variety of room available and since I was traveling solo I didn't need a lot of room and decided on the "Traveler Palm" room. The online reservation process was painless - Charles and Melanie were quick to answer emails and provide information.

My room was much larger then i expected with a bedroom and separate kitchen/sitting area. The queen sized bed was comfortable with a ceiling and floor fans. The kitchen area included a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker with coffee and sugar. There is also bottled water available along with silverware and dishware. There was also a small outdoor patio area with some chairs. The only draw back was there was only a curtain between the sleeping and bathroom area so be sure to travel with someone you are very comfortable with :)

Wifi is also available with a strong signal and fast connection

The beach and "downtown" area is just a 5-10 minute walk and there are are a few small stores just a 1/2 block away as well as a place where the Taxis wait for passengers.

Macondo is solid value and I can't wait to return!

My husband and I just had a lovely stay in the Rooftop bungalow. We enjoyed waking up to the chirping of the birds every morning and the guy walking around advertising his tomales. We enjoyed mornings on the patio drinking coffee and eating baked goods purchased from the back of a truck in the town square the previous evening. The temperature was perfect and we didn't have any troubles with bugs or mosquitoes.

The kitchen was well equipped, although we didn't cook much given the easy and cheap access to terrific and fresh food all over town. We also appreciated the beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards.

The wifi was very convenient and worked well. Charlie was kind enough to help my husband with printing and faxing a form he needed to fill out for a new job so we could get on with relaxing.

Macondo bungalow is a short walk from the beach on town center. It's a nice location which isn't too noisy ( some of the locations near the town center and beach seemed to be pretty noisy). I say not too "noisy" because given the liveliness of Sayulita, it's unlikely to be anywhere that's completely quiet - but we found the energy and joie de vivre here charming and would certainly be back. It's probably the only place that I've been able to do close to nothing but not be bored.

Thank you Charlie and Melanie!

Room Tip: We didn't check out other bungalows, but we loved the outdoor Rooftop Bungalow

We just returned from a fantastic one week stay at the Macondo Bungalows in Sayulita. Spring break, combined with the Mexican national holiday of Semana Santos made for much larger crowds than we had expected. We were fortunate to have booked the Macondo Bungalow well in advance. This was a great refuge from the crowds. We had the spacious rooftop bungalow, which was really wonderful. There was a separate sleeping area, a large well equipped kitchen and living room, and spiral stairs that led to a upper patio with a great view and additional bed. This allowed our family of four ( two teen sons) plenty of room to spread out. The open air roof top was a different experience, and given the season of celebration, there was a bit more noise than you would typically expect, but our gracious hosts, Charlie and Melanie, provided us with ear plugs for night time and we had no trouble at all falling a sleep. They also provide a host of beach amenities,, towels, umbrellas, boogie boards, chairs, coolers, which you would otherwise have to rent. But what was most valuable was the great advice they had on places to eat and the help in aranging fishing and tour guides. They referred us to a great fishing guide who not only helped us catch dinner ( tuna) but also brought us to great snorkeling/whale watching. We are not the best vacation detail planners so we were extremely grateful for all their advice and help.

charlie and melanie really have something special here. 6 private condos each with their own style and charm all set around a common courtyard. quiet, clean, and just a short walk to the beach and town. my trip to sayulita was only enhanced by staying at macondo. they went out of their way to ensure a great stay, from use of their beach chairs and surf boards to hosting a huge seafood cookout with some friends. i will stay here again and not even bother looking for another place.

Very unique and wonderful experience. Stayed here for four nights over Spring Break. Rooftop bungalow was amazing. Perfect weather, my girlfriend and daughter were not bothered by bugs at all, woke up to beautiful birds chilling outside of the balcony among the flowers.
Short walk to the beach, short walk to the center of town.
The owners were great and courteous and helpful. We will definitely be back.
