“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

We enjoyed the bar , it was a great place to meet tourists from around the world , as this is one of the stop overs for transtour bus. The rooms are small but the beds are very comfortable and it has always been clean when we stayed there. July was busy seasone the the price was up, $70.00 CAD ,for 2 , one night. There were several people around offering Casa Particulars , we checked out a few and choose to stay in one nearby for the rest of vacation. The Artex store on the edge of the park, near the chimes, is wonderful. I have purchased 3 shower curtains, along with a few other gifts. I was thrilled to read this was originally a house,

Room Tip: The rooms in front are on the park, nice view. The clock chimes are a little annoying at night. I...

The location in the town center, the building itself, the interior decoration, the clean and airconditioned rooms, all very positive. But:
- There is no elevator in this hotel. If you are on the second floor, and have to carry your bags yourself, quite an exercise ...
- The food you get in the restaurant depends on what they get delivered in the morning. Sometimes not very much, but they do the best they can to prepare something decent.
- I hate to admit it this time, but I had problems with staff attitude. We speak Spanish, do not behave in an arrogant way (we show as much respect and interest as possible), and try to be as generous as possible with tips. No effect at all. Hm... did we miss something ? My only explanation is that their pride prevents them from showing any exaggerated sign of friendliness nor customer care. They just do what they are told to do.
- Our room was clean, had tv and airco, but was too tiny to open our luggage and walk around at the same time.
- Every hour, the national anthem (Bayamesa) is played through a loud speaker system on the Plaza de la Revolución, which woke us up every hour of the night.

great atmospheric hotel in the heart of this charming town. We wer lucky enough to be there when there was a rally to celebrate 50 years of victory- we watched form the hotel's roof top and felt we saw the real Cuba.

The Royalton is well located opposite of Parque Céspedes in the center of town in an area of well maintained buildings. I didn't expect too much upon arrival considering this hotel is only labelled as 2 star on many sites but from what I gathered, recent renovations have elevated this edificio into the 3 star category. I was quite impressed with the room and furnishings even though it was not large. There is no pool but a large upstairs deck for sunning and an in-house restaurant.
The staff were gracious but at times a bit out-of-the-know about certain things seeing as Bayamo is not a huge tourist destination. The towns-folk almost seemed too quiet for Cubans and I did not feel any sort of sense of being hustled wherever I lurked around.
The streets surrounding the park and the boulevard beyond, are blocked and traffic-free making for a quiet pedestrian-walkway atmosphere with a few shops, restaurants, bars, and even a cinema in the vicinity. At any given moment there are people sweeping the streets and square making for an almost perfect picture/postcard look that is not always equated with many parts of Cuba.
A great place to spend a few relaxing days but a week or more might be too much for some who seek a more adventurous action-filled environment. One of those places that is unique in Cuba for it's own ways.
A word of caution is that there is no place in town to exchange money on a Sunday which can make a hungry tourist almost like a beggar of sorts. Kind of funny, if you can imagine. If it weren't for the grace of a casa owner and a fellow tourist, it might have been a long uninteresting night.
I hope to return soon......

Okay for an overnight stay, but wouldn't like to stay for a length of time. Room was small with noisy air conditioning and poor bathroom. Good location however, and good to sit outside hotel with a beer.
