“interesting to see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

we were there in June 2012, driving along and there all of a sudden there it was!
very original, and sat at bar and had a dark beer which was very good, excellent in fact.

staff were friendly and it was once in a lifetime experience!

the only thing a 6 pack of beer at the convenience store was $36.00 plus tax and deposit which i found to be quite expensive.

“Truly a "Shelter from the Storm"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

If I have my facts straight, A L’Abri de la Tempête is the only microbrewery on the island of Cap aux Meules.

Considering the fact that it's the only brewery in the area, they could have given folks a few rickety stools to sit on and I suspect that there would be no lack of customers - Except they didn't. They made the effort to make this a very, warm and comfortable place that makes you want to stay and throw back a few.

A L’Abri de la Tempête translated means "Shelter from the Storm" and indeed that is truly what it is if you are on this windy little gem of an island. Their crafts beer are made from barley whipped by the wind and salty air of the islands, giving their brews a unique taste. They currently have 8 varieties, one of which you have to love for its name alone - Corps Mort, meaning Dead Body because the grains are placed in a smokehouse used to smoke herring. While we did not get to try this beer, it's certainly intriguing! There's also Belle Saison that is brewed with local flowers.

They're no dummies here either. They know how to market themselves. Their name and their very cool logo alone is enough for you to want to by one or more of their many souvenirs to choose from. Heck, we did!

Definitely worth a visit for the charm alone.
