“Look no further. This is the place to stay in Hermann”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2009

The owners were always there to help but never in my way. The breakfast was fantastic. My room / guesthouse was clean and had been recently remodeled. The lodging options in Hermann range from great to downright dreadful. Don't take a chance with another property especially if this is your first trip to Hermann. I use tripadvisor religiously but admittedly almost never take the time to write a review. I was so impressed with Alpenhorn Gasthaus that I felt compelled to share my experience.

We stayed here to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and did alot of research before - different towns in Missouri - a variety of B&B's. We were very excited based on the website, but the pictures DID NOT do justice to the charm and beauty of this place! It was gorgeous even before the trees filled out & flowers bloomed so I can't imagine it in summer! We stayed in the "little house" out back and I LOVED it! It's small, but simply charming and romantic with the vaulted ceiling, old beams, brick walls and the barn door as the bathroom door was so unique! The hot tub is just behind the house (which isn't clear online) so it was very private and convenient and oh so romantic. We enjoyed it under the stars! The grounds were wonderful with woods, old brick buildings, animals and the river just a 10 minute walk through the woods. I recommend indulging in the fondue dinner which was fabulous and romantic and the breakfast was truly delicious - we had banana nut pancakes, fruit and egg & ham cup. The owners were so friendly & welcoming. I highly recommend this B& B for a romantic getaway if your planning a trip to Hermann - and if your just looking for some different, interesting scenery, Hermann is a beautiful spot to get away, take in the beauty, taste some wine and fall in love again.

Great service, went out their way to take care of guests. Very friendly and a pleasure to talk with. The food was amazing, I would recommend getting the extra dinner or port tasting in the wine cellar. So many extras are available to make the stay very special. Looking forward to returning on future trips.

We can't say enough great things about the Alpenhorn Gasthaus. We have been to other bed and breakfast's, but this one is in a league of its own. The atmosphere is cozy, the hospitality is welcoming, and the food is phenomenally delicious. This is THE place to stay if you are visiting Hermann, MO.

The Alpenhorn Gasthaus was a charming experience. The owners were gracious and welcoming, and the house and property interesting in both beauty and history. The food was excellent and healthy. Our family of four stayed in the two adjoining rooms upstairs, which shared a bathroom. There is another room upstairs with its own bathroom. We had a great fondue diinner, which we paid extra for, as well as breakfast the next morning. As other reviews stated, they are excellent cooks, and the dinner music and mood the hosts created was superb. It was interesting to hear about Switzerland from Adrian, who was born there. The day happened to be unseasonably warm, so before breakfast we went on the trail up the hill behind the house to see a beautiful view of the Missouri River. The sheep, cats, and chickens also added to the experience. Remember to bring a swimsuit for the hot tub!

A wonderful weekend getaway & a wonderful B&B!

Hermann is such a neat town, and now we've found a great place to stay. We enjoyed the accommodations, conversations with the owners, and the amazing breakfast very, very much. The location is very convenient as well.

Kate's cookbook is packed full of breakfast recipes that are fun & delicious to try at home, while providing us with a wonderful reminder of our stay there.

We look forward to our next trip to Hermann & our next stay at the Alpenhorn Gasthaus....no need to look for anywhere else to stay!

This was our first experience at a Bed & Breakfast. The overall experience was better than we expected. The hosts were very friendly and gracious. Kate and Adrian put a lot of thought into making our stay a great experience. The home was very beautiful and decorated nicely but also very homey and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and quiet. The breakfast was exquisite. There were a lot of special touches to make our first B & B experience a memorable one.

  • Liked — The privacy and peacefulness
  • Disliked — The time of year / weather not conducive to enjoy the lovely grounds.
