If you are a fan of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, you have to visit the Mark Twain cave. It is so much fun! A tour guide takes you through the cave. Along the way, she/he explains how the people of Hannibal used the cave, including sleeping in it during the summer. This seemed a little weird to me, until I remembered how hot and muggy a Missouri summer can be. Without air conditioning, it must have been miserable. The coolness of the cave must have been a relief. The guide also ties in the tale of Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher and their adventure being lost in the cave. It is all great fun and one of the most enjoyable parts of our visit to Hannibal.
