“Dog Lover Or Not...You'll Love This Museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2014

While we do not own a dog at this time -- although through our daughter we do boast a "GrandPuppy!" -- we visit the Museum frequently for the many special events it hosts. Most recently, the special Halloween for dogs where many folks brought their disguised pooches. You also will find the English prints and other artwork and sculpture of dogs absolutely beautiful and unique.

The American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog, located at 1721 S. Mason Rd., in beautiful Queeny Park, West St. Louis County, Missouri, is home to the world's finest collection of art devoted to the dog. The 14,000 sq. ft. facility, which includes historic Jarville House (1853), displays over 700 original paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints, sculptures, bronzes, and porcelain figurines, and a variety of decorative arts objects depicting man's best friend throughout the ages.

In addition to myriad other beautiful prints, on permanent display is Sir Edwin Landseer's oil on canvas of a Deerhound and Recumbent Foxhound and many Maud Earl portraits of various terrier breeds.

The museum is open year-round and available to visitors Wednesday - Saturday from 10 AM - 4 PM, and Sundays 1 PM - 5 PM (closed Monday, Tuesday, and holidays). Queeny Park, home of the Museum, is accessible from highway/interstate 40/64 at the Mason Rd. exit or from I-270 by taking the Manchester exit to Mason Rd. Museum fees are extremely reasonable: $5 for adults, $1 for children (5-14), and $2.50 for seniors and active duty/retired military.

The Museum Gift Shop offers a wide array of gift items for you and your companion pet including tapestry pillows, ceramics and jeweled dog dishes, books on dogs, umbrellas, stationery, T-shirts, and jewelry, as well as one-of-a-kind objects exclusive to The Dog Museum.

A book and video library is available by appointment for research on purebred dogs and animal artists. The Museum also offers indoor and outdoor for business meetings, dog club activities, and special events.

The AKC Museum of the Dog is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, funded mainly by private and corporate gift donations. If you come to St. Louis, you must come to the Museum of the Dog!

“Not what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2014

This museum was different than what I expected. It had mostly art (paintings and sculptures). Overall, it was nice and I have to say that I enjoyed it but found it a bit boring.

“We had a doggone good time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2014

A fun little museum dedicated to dogs. There were many pieces of dog art and I was surprised how old some of the pieces were. There was also a neat area dedicated to police dogs.

“A Museum... About Dogs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

Nothing really too spectacular about this place, unless you are truly a "Crazy Dog Lady," or just need a break from the sweltering St. Louis heat and humidity.

There are dog paintings. Dog pictures. Dog collars... all on display for your viewing. The only thing missing from this museum are actual dogs, but a quick lap around the surrounding Queeny Park trails will find you running into plenty of dogs and their owners in no time at all.

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

Not really worth 5$ @ person. not much to see, we were done in 20 minutes, it's a beautiful portion of the park but it's free to stay outside and wander around. I'd say skip it unless you wanted to see a particular exhibit at a certain time.
