“Excellent Route 66 Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

This was truly an excellent place to stay along Route 66. We had a group of 7 motorcycles and we were treated to the nicest hospitality. The hotel is nice and clean. They have done an excellent job of keeping it "true" to the experience.

With the Missouri Hick BBQ next door for dinner and Shelly's Route 66 diner just up the road for breakfast you cannot choose a better stop for miles.

Connie has updated the rooms at the Wagon Wheel, while keeping the Route 66 vibe. We decided to upgrade our room here after some "shabby" stays along Route 66. So happy we did...large, comfortable rooms, one with great shower (many, many spouts & sprays) and the other with a large jacuzzi tub. Wifi was not strong. Missouri Hick Restaurant next door has great BBQ ribs. All in all a great stop on our Route 66 journey.

Room Tip: The higher price rooms (which are actually very reasonably priced) are much larger and have better b...

The Wagon Wheel has the modern conveniences with a redo that kept many historic looks and feel of the heyday of Rte 66. Motel staff very good. Outdoor covered seating and fan allows for meeting friends in a great setting. Definitely glad we had the experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with a large walk-in shower. Worth the $$.to us.

Fantastic place to stay. Rooms were a little small but that was the way it was back in the day. Air conditioning was the quietest I have ever seen in a motel room. Most rooms do not have a microwave of refrigerator though. We stayed there 4 nights. Connie, the owner, was wonderful to us and our entire group. I would go there again if given the chance

I just loved staying at the quaint, historic Wagon Wheel. The rooms are beautifully remodeled while still keeping that historic vibe. Connie, the owner, was a great hostess. Although very small (which I was expecting), the room was clean and comfortable. The only two minor issues were WIFI did not seem to be working and late night noise was an issue. There was a large group of people hanging out in the pavilion until late and they were quite loud. Since there is no front desk that is manned overnight, there was no one on site to manage the situation. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying at the Wagon Wheel if you up for an enjoyable stay tinged with a bit of nostalgia.

This was our first stop on our Route 66 trip and my first time in an older motel. I loved the renovations on the buildings and the room was fresh and clean. I do wish there was more of a vintage feel inside the rooms but we stayed in one of the suites and I highly recommend it for the extras like a frig and microwave!

I stayed in the Wagon Wheel during a trip across Route 66. Although it was one of the first stops, it was the one I kept thinking back to as I checked into motels of all shapes and sizes across the country. What it lacks in typical motel amenities (fridge, microwave) it makes up for in charm. We stayed in the small, full bedroom and it had everything we needed: a comfortable bed (which was plenty spacious for the two of us), A/C, TV, wifi, and a great shower with quality soaps. I wish we could've spent more time in this charming motel to see what else it had to offer. By the office there was a little outdoor patio space that looked lovely.
The Missouri Hick BBQ next door had delicious food with good options for vegetarians and some very nice house-brewed beers. (And they didn't seem to mind too much when we showed up just before closing.) We'd love to stay at the Wagon Wheel again!

Room Tip: The full bed fits two nicely.
