My party of three arrived at The Heidelberg at 9:30pm on a Saturday evening. Though the restaurant was sparsely populated, our waitress appeared to be dazed and confused. She was simply clueless.
Coming off a hot summer's day, I asked for an ice tea (advertised on the menu) when she took our drink order. She came back five minutes later and said the tea was brewing. Ok, no problem. She then took our appetizer and meal order. The appetizers arrived, but still no drink...and no recognition from the waitress that one of the three people in our party was still without a beverage even after our first course was served! Since we rarely saw our waitress again, I finally went to the bar and purchased an overpriced soft drink. Very poor service at The Heidelberg.
The food was not much better. Everything tasted bland. Our appetizers included soft “Bavarian” pretzels and breaded mushrooms. Even with the side sauces and cheeses, there was not much taste.
Our entrees included a cheeseburger, chicken wrap, and chicken wings. The wing sauce was not much more than a heavy dose of pepper. The sides were equally tasteless. As a side note, our service-challenged waitress did not offer me addition napkins with the wings…never a good sign.
The prices were not obscene, but considering the poor service and food, I felt ripped off.
My advice when visiting Mizzou is to stay away from The Heidelberg. It gives the German city a bad name.
