We stumbled onto this place while looking for an interesting B&B between Kansas City and St. Louis. Boy does it qualify. This is a small-town three-story brick school building, more than a century old and once abandoned. A couple who met as third-graders while attending the school decades ago purchased it and remodeled it into a very pleasant place to stay. They don't live in the building, but they clearly love it. We never met him, but she was extremely helpful. The place is kinda funky. You enter through a basement door and walk through a small dining room, you have to climb stairs, you park on gravel, but your room is very nice. Large. Original wood floors. Great views from the hilltop location. Ours had a whirlpool in the big modern bathroom. Total cost: about $100 a night. Breakfast was an excellent spread, better than some hotel buffets. They also serve dinner and drinks some nights. They even sold us a bottle of wine from a nearby winery that was quite good. This B&B is not in perfect condition. There's more remodeling ahead, and it's needed. But if you need to stay in this area, try it out.
