“Excellent race viewing !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

We are serious National Hunt fans, so for us a day at the races is about the ability to actually SEE the racing, plus toilet and snack facilities. We don't go to spend the afternoon in a bar with a telly (and then go home saying 'We went to the Races !!), so I'm not able to comment on the non-racing aspects of Ffos Las.

The viewing is excellent, even though somewhat featureless as it is VERY flat ! (reclaimed open-cast mining area). There are no outbuildings, screens or undulations, so you can follow the entire race with ease from the ordinary stands and steps.

The car park is hard standing, which given the Welsh deluge we had (of course !!), was reassuring to say the least. The attendant at the entry point welcomed us on arrival - despite being soaking wet and hatless (it was ok earlier that day . . .), and then promptly spoke to us again, clearly remembering us, as we left after the last ! Incredible, and left us with a very pleasant final memory of the racecourse, although the horses didn't . . . !!

Incidentally, if you need an overnight stay, DO try the Premier Inn at LLanelli Central East.

“Largely enjoyable despite the rain and polital speeches”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

My 2nd visit to Ffos Las - last time was 3 years ago when they appeared a little unfriendly - with racegoers searched for food/drink before entering. This time they were a lot more welcoming and I didnt see any searches of ladies bags etc which was annoying many people last time.

The racing here is avaerage quality albeit the course is still fairly new and layout good.

The stand is not large so you need to get on steps early to see the races from there - albeit at ground level the big screen helps.

The rainy weather was not ideal but the McCoy Beach hut provides extra shelter as well as the stand bars etc.

Parking was good albeit on grass.

Food and drink choice is very limited if not booked in a restaurant. A good coffee stall would be good!

Our visit was on Countryside day - in effect an excuse to let the local foxhunting people flog their wares and make political speeches over the tannoy.

That aside the racing side was fine - however the course is remote so you need to be a local or keen racing fan to visit.

“Amazing Day Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

My first visit to Ffos Las but certainly won't be the last. My friends and I decided on a day out at the races on Ladies Day, just an excuse for us to get dressed up and have a girlie day out. We certainly weren't disappointed; for just £18 there was music before racing, prizes for getting dressed up, lots of races and a live band afterwards.

My only downside was that I didn't win a penny but the Pimms and Champers made up for it.

Great day out

“ladies day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

a great day out for us ladies to get dressed up and have a fun day 10/10
we booked a table in one of the marquees which included a meal
the bar and waitresses and are really nice and helpful 10/10

the food is not all that and at £50 per head for a 3 course meal in my view was quite expensive
we had foreign bodies in our food !!!!! which was sorted immediately
plus the taste of the food was quite bland,
which is why i rate the food 3/10

“Day out to meet Peppa pig”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

It's the first time we have visited Ffos Las even though we live quite close. We were pleasantly surprised to find I didn't have to pay to get in as my mother is in a wheelchair and the children were free. The staff were helpful and pleasant. I did find the prices of food and drink rather excessive - £4 for a plastic cup of Pimms and lunch consisted of rather expensive junk food ie burger, hot dog and chips. It was quite a hot day and there were wasps everywhere. Manoeuvring with a wheelchair was not straightforward and quite hard work on the grass. We spent a pleasant few hours there though and I would probably go again. One major negative was the toilets - disgusting, we saw Peppa pig and a few other characters who were very friendly. A nice day out and the racecourse is impressive although with the wheelchair we couldn't see much.
