The Southside Cafe is right on the town square in Butler. We found it by accident when stopping in Butler for a stretch break while traveling along US-71, and wanted something other than McDonalds for breakfast.
This is a friendly little cafe in a classic small-town downtown style building. The service is very friendly. The menu is simple, but the prices are low, the portions are large, and the atmosphere is peaceful.
They have daily specials which are basically different menu items offered at a discount on certain days. The breakfast pie is one of their specialties and it is very good, but you won't go wrong with anything thing else on the menu. And, at least when we were there, they had orange marmalade for the toast!!
Take a stroll around the square and take in a great looking downtown with some great buildings, not least of which is the impressive courthouse in the center. Also, next door to the cafe, is an old fashioned barber shop (which, ironically, has "modern barber shop" written on the barber pole).
So if you have a half hour or more to spare when traveling on US-71, take the time to drive deeper into Butler to visit the square.
