We flew out of St. Louis hoping to save some money. Everything did run smoothly as far as getting to the hotel, parking the car and getting the shuttle to the airport. When we returned the shuttle back to the hotel was fine as well. However, when my husband went to put some of our extra bags in the car we found that it was gone.
The night clerk had no idea what had happened. He had to call the police and that is when we found that someone had broken into the car, attempted to steal it after tearing out the ignition and then must have gotten scared off because it was later found sitting in the parking deck blocking traffic and running. The hotel had to call the police and have it towed. We had given our home phone number when making the reservation a couple of months out. When you fill out the car information, they do not ask for further contact information so they did not have our cell phone numbers so we could not be notified except on our home phone. In a way, we ended up enjoying our last few days of vacation without knowing. But a suggestion for the hotel would be to ask for additional contact information on the vehicle information sheet.
We returned from our trip on a weekend which made it pretty much impossible to deal with the situation so we had a friend come and pick us up since we had to go back to work the next day. The hotel did comp the room for the night we stayed and provided some information as to where we could take the car when we got it released from the tow yard. The also offered another free night if we needed to come back for this (no offense, but I will not bring another car to this hotel, free night or not, and take the chance of having it broken into again). I heard more than once from the hotel that this has never happened before but after looking at the reviews here, I would say that is not the case and I don't believe it's a safe place to leave a car any longer.
On Monday, found out you can only get an auto release from the police by appearing in person. We live 3 hours away so this was a problem. Fortunately (or unfortunately), our daughter was having surgery at the children's hospital that week. So, while she was in surgery, my husband appeared at the police station, got the paperwork and got the auto released from the tow yard. All of that cost about $320 after it sat there for a week. It was towed later that day and taken to a repair place. They were not able to have it fixed until after we had returned home with our daughter. That repair was another $500. I then had to have my parents drive me down to St. Louis again to pick up the car and bring it home. Needless to say, it would have been cheaper to spend a little more on flights from our home town rather than fly out of St. Louis and I will keep this in mind the next time we want to fly. We will never go back to this hotel. Just a warning for others looking for a place to leave a car. The hotel does need some work as well.

My apologies regarding your vehicle. As I have explained to you previously, this could have happened anywhere and at any location. There are news reports regularly not to leave anything in your vehicle. During my many conversations with your husband upon your return, he admitted it was an older vehicle and easy to get into. Upon your return we tried to assist you in any way possible, with shuttle, referrals and and return stay if it was necessary. We had no choice but to tow the vehicle, it was abandoned, running and blocking the driveway, it was a police matter to investigate. We have a very large Park & Fly business, with satisfied returning guests. This was an isolated incident, which we have no control over. Again, my sincere apologies.
