I gave the property a 4 due to it's outstanding swimming facilities. I will give more details in my review.
The motel is easily accessible. We had no problems either entering or exiting the motel.
Check in was quick and effective. Our room was on the ground floor easily accessible by my handicapped daughter. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
The room was clearly not a new room, but it was clean. It was a bit smaller than most of the rooms we have had recently. There were only 2 chairs (one one which was damaged and looked like it could collapse at any time), a small table, and one little trash can. It also had one bureau with only 2 drawers, tv, and a luggage stand. I almost forgot the night stand that was between the beds. Ice was readily available and we had no problem getting what we required.
We could hear a baby crying in the adjoining units, but it was not enough to bother us. Also, being grandparents, we understand the difficulties of caring for a youngster in close settings. The noise between was no worst than most units of this type.
However, There was not a single usable outlet for our electronic devices. I had to unplug the TV and use a power strip I bring with me for such a situation. The Wifi was difficult to access. I had to force the tablets' browsers to request the desktop site log-in site before we could access the network. It took about 15 minutes to figure this out. We kept getting "server error" and it was only by accident we discovered the solution. The display said there was a 5-hour time limit for usage...I don't know if that was per session or total time. We did not use it that long in either case. Once we did access the network, we had no problem with it.
This is not a issue if you have no electronic devices. However, everyone in our family has multiple devices and not having any outlets is a big inconvenience. A room without any power access at all I consider to be quite substandard in this day when when almost everyone has some sort of electronic device - usually with a battery that needs to be recharged. This room was the size of a two-person room with an extra bed thrown in as an afterthought. Having only one small trash can was also a problem. I did not realize how important the little buggers were! There was no outside trash can to empty them in that we could find.
We went swimming later. We found outstanding swimming facilities. There is both a seasonal outdoor pool and an indoor pool. We spent very little time in the outdoor pool, so I will not give an assessment of that pool.
The Indoor pool was fairly large for an indoor pool and sort of an oval shape. There was also a hot pool or spa. It had timed air ports - unlike anything I have seen before. It made a sound much like someone blowing thru a straw into a cup of water. The swimming room was spacious and there were some coin-operated games on one side of the room and also a sink and coin-operated washer/dryer as well.
The water in the pool was warm. The pool depth ranged from 3 feet one in to 5 ft at the other. We enjoyed the pool a great deal. This was one of the most enjoyable pool visits we have had. In addition, there were pool towels available for us to use and we did have to use our own towels which we brought with us. There was a container by the door for you to put the towels in when you finished. The pool area has a patio (and a barbeque grill) on the opposite side of the building (on the outside, of course). Although we did not use it, that was an extra we had not seen anywhere before. It just served to increase our rating of the pool area.
When you check in you are given tickets for each member of your party for every day you will need breakfast. So, if you have a large number of people in your party or are staying for a long time,,,be prepared to handle a large number of tickets!
The breakfast room is call "Cafe Express" and is not like anything we have encountered before. It is located at the end of the main building. First, you present your tickets -- this gets you to the "free" part. This includes biscuits and gravy, doughnuts, rolls, cereal (thee off-brand cereals-one of which was like cheerios), juice and coffee. Of course, milk for the cereal was also provided. In addition, they had extras you could buy. For example, for $5.00 you can buy a variety of special platters which are then cooked for you. Other smaller extras you can buy include, soda for a dollar and oatmeal for a dollar. There were attendants who functioned as a cross between waiters and stockers. I am not sure how to rate the breakfast -- while the collection of "free" items was less than normal -- you could easily upgrade with the optional items -- some of which, such as oatmeal are normally included at other places. There was no accommodation for special diets..such as a sugar-free jelly or jam. However, the "free" items were kept well-stocked, there was high attention to detail and cleanliness.
We went to Silver Dollar City. When we returned, we found the beds made and the single trash can was emptied. But there was absolutely nothing else done, such as sweeping the floor or any type of cleaning. This was the worst job of room maintenance during a stay I have seen anywhere this year so far.
The room was substandard, the cleaning of the room during our stay was substandard, the breakfast was a mixed bag, the office staff was very good, and the pools were outstanding. That is the primary basis for the rating.
