As others have said, this is a gorgeous, large, well-stocked lake.
If you plan to bring your own boat, or rent one there, to have some fun on the water, read recent news BEFORE you head out. The Corps of Engineers "owns" much of the access to the lake, and they are a federal agency. Access was closed for a few days during the government shut down in October 2013, which in turn forced several of the lakeside businesses to close early for the season due to the severe decline in business.
More changes and cutbacks have been predicted, so before you set off to travel there, you may want to check the Internet and/or call ahead. The Corps also owns the dam and visitor center. The fish hatchery is run by the state, so they should be safe.
Our family has enjoyed a number of wonderful vacations at Table Rock, and we certainly hope the current political and fiscal policies of our federal government won't ruin the thriving economy of the area.
Tip from the locals - if you are grilling on your own, go see the butchers at the Harter House grocery in Kimberling City. They will suggest great cuts and even season them perfectly for you.
