“Did not live up to past reviews”

Expectations were high based on previous reviews and what we got was overcooked pasta with very little flavor at a premium price. The food was not memorable and we would of had a better meal at a big box chain. The dining room was rows of tables with booths on one of the walls. The wasn't much of a décor on the tables either. They seem to have a good local following but for a visitor like us we will good elsewhere.

“Never acknowledged, so we left without ordering”

Don't waste your time eating here. They don't appreciate you.

My wife and I are native Jacksonians who recently moved back from North Carolina and who have been enjoying revisiting some of our favorite restaurants. We have been eating at Amerigo for years and have always recommended it as one of the favorites.

What we experienced on Thursday night, November 14, 2013, however, was embarrassing and infuriating. Having already dined, we visited Amerigo for after-dinner drinks and dessert. The hostess directed us to the bar area where we sat at the bar facing the restaurant until two places opened at the main bar. We were there long enough to strike up conversations with some of the patrons at the real bar. It was around 8:00 and not terribly busy compared to the old days. We finally moved to our chairs facing the two bartenders...one a guy and the other a young lady. We had a menu, picked up when we entered, in order to look through the dinner drinks and dessert offerings. What started out as fun ended in anger and disappointment over how we were treated...or, rather, untreated.

Not once did either bartender acknowledge us. No greeting. No eye contact. No question about what we needed to drink. Nothing. We sat there and watched the bartenders serve everyone but us...people who just walked up to the bar and leaned over right next to us got served beer while we were still waiting for some kind of acknowledgement. After another few minutes of watching the bartenders serve everyone but us, we finally got up and left when we saw the lady bartender just walk around the bar still with no intention of addressing us at all. When we got up, I finally said in a very loud voice so the other patrons at the bar and both bartenders could hear me, "I guess no one is going to ask us what we want, so we're leaving." We then stopped and told the hostess why we were leaving and that we would never be back.

I don't know what has happened to the Amerigo that once was, but it is obviously no longer the same. We have been disappointed in the food and service the last several times we have eaten there. The last time, we ended up having to track our waiter down after we sat forever with an uncleared table waiting for the check at the end of the meal. We finally went to the hostess and asked for the waiter who was found eating at the bar. That should have told us how much Amerigo has changed since Bill was involved in running it. But, our loyalty kept us coming back in an attempt to recreate old memories. (My wife is actually a former employee. When she was on the wait staff, they had ONE MINUTE to get to the table and great the customer.)

The way we were treated was insulting. The bartenders didn't pay any attention to us when we were there, and I'm sure they won't miss us in the future. But, last night will be the last time we ever darken the doors of Amerigo. And, we intend on telling a lot of people about how we were treated.

My wife and I left Amerigo and went to Table 100 in Flowood for our champagne, chocolate martini and absolutely incredible dessert. Service was quick, flawless, and memorable! How sad that Amerigo has fallen so low. But, how lucky we are that Bill Latham and his group continue to open restaurants where the service is something to look forward to and where the customer is still treated with dignity and respect.

“Just OK”

We've frequented Amerigo several times or more a year since its opening years ago. Over these years Amerigo has been consistent and reliable. My last visit was a bit of a letdown, but not for everyone at our table. All but me enjoyed their selections. I felt the service and high standards for the food suffered, including the service. Maybe just an off night.

“Worth trying..”

We have had the pleasure of dining at Amerigo's twice in trips to Ridgeland, MS. It's a small restaurant that packs a big crowd because the food is delicious. The wait staff is above par and while you may have to wait for seating if you don't call for a reservation, even the wait is worth it for the food. It really is worth trying.

Took a couple of friends that were in town to Amerigo, the atmosphere was excellent as well as the service and the food. One of my friends likes Key Lime Pie, he raved about how delicious the pie was and the serving was really BIG!!
