“Will Stay Here Again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2009

We chose to stay near Jackson on a midway point between Kentucky and Texas. We noticed the Ridgeland area on a stop on the way to Kentucky and made a note of the Hyatt Place and decided to stay there on our return to Texas and are glad we did. Our check-in took under a couple of minutes and we were quickly up to our room on the 3rd floor.

Most of the reviews have summed it up pretty well, it's a new, clean hotel in a great shopping area within walking distance just north of Jackson. We picked up a meal to go from the nearby PF Changs and brought it back to our room. We loved the layout and the flat screen tv. Unlike many hotels, most of the channels were in true HD. The wireless internet is FREE and fast. The bathroom has a huge shower. The door swings inward and is a tight fit around the toilet.

The only complaint I had was with the ac/heater. We stayed on a cold night and you could feel a draft from under the unit which is located next to the king sized bed (see my uploaded photos). When the heat kicked on it blew air right at us and it was also very noisy. I don't think that is the ideal place for that unit.

The kids slept on the sofa bed. I must say it was one of the most comfortable sofa beds I've been on. I didn't feel a pole poking me in the back like many others I've seen.

We enjoyed the free breakfast the next morning. Cereal, toast, yogurt, fruit and juice. Eggs cost extra. Still it was enough to get us on our way. All in all, we loved the hotel and will likely stay there again next time we are in the Jackson area.

Checked in early afternoon and staff was very nice. Stayed one night as stop-off from the Natchez Trace going home. Perfect location off I-55N of Jackson, Ms. Hotel sets in a beautiful shopping complex (Renaissance Center). A few restaurants in the center (try PF Chang's); others can get pricey. After dinner, a walk in the center is nice!

Back to the hotel for a glass of wine at their little bar. Internet in lobby, got first floor for ease of being close to everything. We arrived early in afternoon, so enjoyed the nice room for evening (especially 42" TV). Wonderful couch with ottoman. Breakfast was very good. Great price for room was a surprise ($70); small suite, but perfect for rest and relax after traveling. I highly recommend this hotel for the N. Jackson area.

Ridgeland is the new Jackson (4 miles South), with a beautiful new development, Renaissance, featuring first rate retail, restaurants and services. The best places to stay are the Embassy Suites and Hyatt Place, both keenly aware of and competitive with each other. For me, the edge goes to Embassy Suites, only because of their beautiful breakfast/food offerings (See my review on Embassy Suites Ridgeland, MS).

The Hyatt Place is a great concept; modern, comfortable with some "W" type amenities without the pretension, huge rooms (450 sq ft), 42" HiDef TV/Monitor with fantastic separate input panel for DVD's, iPod, etc. and free internet. I had some serious issues with the TV service (no local Fox station..on an NFL weekend!) and they handled it in "ok" fashion, but it's still below standard service until they get their LodgeNet offerings up to date.

The rooms, even though they aren't "suites," are nicer and seem larger than the Embassy Suites "suites" with the now standard high quality beds and linens, huge sofa and ottoman and convenient design. The service is pretty good and the friendly front desk staff doubles as reception, baristas and concierges. Once outside the guest room, though, the lobby, small bar and breakfast area falls short. The public area is small and cramped if there’s a full house.

Now, about so-called "free" breakfast: the “free” part is cold, bland and ordinary (on a level with 2 star properties). There are optional hot egg/bacon combos, but for an additional $7. You order it through a touchscreen order station that just doesn’t work (bad idea); I finally just verbally gave my order. The eggs were mediocre with wafer thin bacon (ham was also thin). To add insult to injury, they offer delicious looking breakfast muffins and cinnamon rolls, but at even MORE cost. I finally ended up having breakfast at Embassy Suites across the road where, for $10 bucks I had a glorious full breakfast! There’s also a 24 hour "Grab n Go" case with sandwiches, and a few salads, but nothing to compare with Embassy Suite's full room service. With so many 3-star properties now offering FULL hot, delicious breakfast, Hyatt Place isn't competitive.

The bottom line is that Ridgeland’s Renaissance is the place to be in the North Jackson area and, if you can live with the strangely inadequate breakfast offerings, definitely stay at Hyatt Place. If, however, you prefer, big full breakfast, a full service bar and full room service, Embassy Suites is your best choice.

The rooms are nice enough. I appreciated free fast and reliable internet access with both wired and wireless available in rooms. It is also nice that they provide a number of inputs for your use on the plasma TV (you can easily use your own portable DVD, computer, etc with the TV) - I wish all hotels would provide this. Beds are not quite as comfortable as many Hiltons, but overall pretty good. Hotel employees, while generally friendly, fell short of making me feel like a valued guest. Also rooms with one King bed are smaller than rooms with 2 doubles.

I have stayed in numerous hotels in the Jackson area, and thia one your is by far the best. I paid $79 through their website for a Saturday night stay. The room featured an ultra-comfortable bed and a 42-inch flatscreen LCD TV. Check-in was extremely easy and was done through a kiosk. Just scan your credit card, select your preferred floor level, and the kiosk will dispense your room keys. There is also a sparkling indoor pool. The room was very hip and cool. Located next to a modern shopping center. Just a great hotel.

This is a great place. Not stayed at a Hyatt Place before but if they are all this good.....

VERY modern, clean, comfortable, minamilist - Great little touches everywhere. Lovely comfortable sofa and beds. Pool very nice, really liked how you could check in / out on computer terminals.

Location is actually pretty good - right beside a new outdoor mall which has a nice feel to it and in walking distance to PF Changs (nice meal there too)

If there was a downside, the breakfast is very limited and if busy, seating is very limited.

Recommend and maybe go back on day.

The hotel was overrated. The food was very expensive and so not tasty. Check your sofa bed, because mines had dead ants in it. but they were kind enough to provide me with another room. For $90 a night a hot breakfast would be nice. The continental breakfast sucks! they dont serve whole milk! you may as well go to the freakin Hilton, and get your money's worth!
