“Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I stayed one night in the Downtown Oxford Inn. It was right in the heart of picturesque Oxford and 1 mile away from the University. The check in was seamless and the desk clerk was very eager to help and answer any questions I had. He even to draw out the route on a map he gave me. Very thoughtful and kind of him. The room was very nice. The AC blew cold and the bed was very comfortable. I felt safe and secure, even walking out in the parking lot in the middle of the night to retrieve an item from the car. Upon check out I was greeted by the desk clerk and welcomed to come back and stay anytime. The only thing I wished the room would have had was a small refrigerator....other than that, perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. The current hotel will be completely demolished and a new hotel will be built in this same location. The new hotel "Hotel Oxford" is expected to open in the summer of 2014. We hope you will consider staying with us at the new hotel! Thank you!

Downtown Oxford Inn is in a beautiful area and was probably a great place...MANY years ago. It's in a desperate need of updating or even just a good clean. The Inn is made up of several freestanding buildings with rooms facing out, so you walk in from the parking lot or the 2nd floor balcony. There are some pros...albeit few:

- the front desk staff was nice
- the bed was probably the best feature of the room. It was comfortable and seemed clean
- free Internet
- free parking, although it's sparse and first come first serve

And on to the cons:

- the overpowering musty smell hits you as soon as you walk into the lobby, which doesn't have automatic doors, making it very difficult to maneuver with bags
- the rooms and decor are OLD. The furniture looks like it hasn't been replaced...or cleaned for 50 years or so. I was afraid to touch any upholstered furniture and some sported nasty stains
- the bathroom looked clean but the shower had mold
- sink was clogged
- good luck getting any standard toiletries at the front desk if you forgot them at home
- all windows had dingy yellow curtains on the window...

There were just too many things I didn't even want to touch in this room. I would have much rather stayed in a Motel 8...I feel like those are cleaner.

A superb location in the heart of a very pretty town..the website's photo's make this look like a winner..but so sorry..so wrong. We were given a room that was musty, tired and desperately in need of an upgrade.I called to see if they had a " suite" available and with luck,we were able to move to the 2nd floor to a larger room.It was a moderate improvement.A minimal breakfast included in the lobby reception area..nothing to write home about. The grounds were neglected, with peanut shells on the walkway stairs, that never got cleaned during our 2 night stay..too bad over all regarding this spot..as mentioned, they truly need to bring their property up to speed to match their website!

Room Tip: Second floor only and a suite..nothing else.

Love the location. But the hotel is very sad and needs to be updated. The rooms are dreary. The breakfast was so disappointing. The staff however was very nice. I love Oxford and will go back once a month but I will find somewhere to stay.

Great location, few yards to town square.
Front desk staff pleasant & friendly, usually college students.
80s Hotel decor worn & dated.
Breakfast buffet dreadful plastic food. Suggest you bring your own.
Cleanliness questionable.
NYC prices on game & activity weekends for cheap motel surroundings.
Parking on a first come basis, so you may end up walking quite a distance to your car.
Try the chicken salad at the gas station across from the hotel. Made locally, l kid you not, to die for!!!!! Plan brunch at the Bottletree Cafe, may have to wait, they are so popular.!!

As some other reviewers have stated, this place has a great location. We walked down to the square and had some good food from here. But the hotel is starting to show it's age. I tried to spin it off as a nice classy hotel from early days, but it's more starting to show some need for repair that I think is probably due to the fact they are going to tear it down and rebuild it. The complimentary breakfast was not very impressive either. The staff were very friendly though, which made the stay a little more pleasant as well. Cannot wait to see what they do after the rebuild it.

Oxford is a great town with great places to eat, great tailgates, and a wealth of history. However, they fall short on places to stay, but that is about tho change.

We stayed 3 nights in a 1 BR suite in Building C. Its was clean and comfortable but not esthetically pleasing, contemporary or unto date by any stretch. The staff is mainly made up of awesome college student, who roll out their best southern hospitality. I can not stay I would recommend staying at the DOI, but you don't have many choice if you want to stay my the square. I cannot wait to return until after the spring of 2014 when the new luxury DOI is scheduled to reopen.

I gained a new appreciation for Oxford and ol'Miss, both now rate high in my book.
