We initially had reservations at Heart Break Hotel, but after reading the great reviews of Bonne Terre Inn and decided to switch lodging and what a smart move!
The property sits on over 100 acres of picturesque setting, you drive past a quaint chapel and street lined with matured white crepe myrtles and a large lake. You check-in at the registration office where you are greeted by a pleasant staff, and great homemade cookies which are available to the guest during office hours. There are two horses on the property, Flame and Ellie and the office has apples and encourages you to feed Flame and Ellie.
Our room was in the main building which is a two story building with 4 rooms on each floor. Each room having French doors leading out to either a porch or balcony all with comfy padded rocking chairs. Our building had a large welcoming parlor, with a refreshment area, of bottle water, sodas, and sherry. The building reminded me of a “southern plantation” done in a French Country décor. The parlor has soft music playing quietly which makes this a very relaxing room. The entire complex is wi-fi which was a bonus for my husband and me. Bonne Terre is able to create a homey atmosphere and makes the guest feel at home. The building is very large and it gives the guest the impression of being in a mini mansion. Rooms that are not occupied are opened, allowing guest a peek into these room (each room is decorated differently). Our room was the Sunflower room and it was perfect for us. The rooms are large and ours had a large sitting area. We were supplied with two robes to use during our stay. The bed and linens were five stars. It was one if not the most comfortable beds I have experienced while traveling. The tubs are jetted tubs and have room for two. The property has a large pool and the temperate is lukewarm in the evening, perfect!
The landscape is beautiful and you will find lots of birds, humming birds and butterflies. Wonderful place to take walks around the property after your wonderful breakfast, did I mention the full breakfast is included in your stay!
The owners of this wonderful Inn have thought of everything to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. There is nothing that I could suggest to make the stay any better, however my husband who enjoys his TV would recommend having cable TV in the rooms (the rooms have a small TV with a couple of channels).
