It's a long day's drive from the Houston, TX area to Meridian, MS, and upon arrival one hopes for a clean, comfortable and equipped room. We travel with refrigerated items, and so upon opening the cabinet for the advertised refrigerator, imagine our surprise to find an empty space. Contact the front desk and we're told they break down and so are moved from room to room, next morning the manager explains that they leave them out of some rooms they discount on rate. Either excuse is ridiculous and contrary to the property's description on the corporate Web site. While awaiting our refrigerator delivery, a step into the bathroom reveals that refrigerators are the least of our concerns - no towels, washcloths, bathmat, bars of soap. Must be one of those darn discounted rooms again! Call front desk, apologies, they are brought from another room - now without them. You're saying at this point, just a mistake by the housekeeping staff. It's now the return trip and Meridian is a reasonable drive destination, so let's try the Country Inn again, the beds are comfortable. Same desk clerk who remembers us, ask if we get a refrigerator this time, answer is "I hope so". Alas, hopes were dashed as we looked into the empty refrigerator cabinet. Guess where we looked next. Guess what we found. Sure enough, no towels, washcloth, bathmat, soap. Excuse this time - not enough washers and dryers to get them back to the rooms in a timely manner, such as before guests check in. The same unacceptable room conditions twice, two weeks apart? The property should be closed until facilities meet advertised and common sense standards in ALL rooms, and management should be replaced. For guests, recommend bringing your cooler - ice machine works, but there's only one (first floor - must be like that washer and dryer budget issue), and tuck your towel sets into the car somewhere.
So why a two star rating instead of one? Anquanetta Cole, who get our five star rating. Yet another example of this property's abysmal cost-cutting at the expense of customer satisfaction is the fact that this young woman literally runs the entire operation. She is the front desk staff, leaves the desk to meet customer requests like refrigerators and towels, folds laundry in the back, is the hostess and food service provider for the morning breakfast, was seen polishing the furniture and sweeping the entry area, all this done with courtesy and a smile. Who knows what else fills her days and nights there. She deserves to become a manager, or better yet, a job at a better property. We're not going to return, but thanks, Anquanetta.
