I stayed here for 3 days for a work trip and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this hotel. It's located near the fairgrounds, which tends to feel a bit dead during the off season. I stayed at another chain hotel in the area a year ago, and it was really rundown and dirty. I was apprehensive about the Hampton Inn for that reason, but the difference was night and day!
There's a fence around the hotel but no automatic gate (which always makes it feel like you're in a dangerous neighborhood, in-person security is much better). The parking lot feels very safe and well lit. The lobby is pleasantly decorated and warm and the staff were some of the nicest and friendliest staff I think I've ever encountered at a hotel. Rooms were great, clean and comfortable, the wifi was fast and trouble free. Free tea, coffee and cocoa were available all the time. All the guests even seemed to be in a great mood, which I attribute in part to the great staff. Breakfast was the only thing I didn't love but it was basic and free with many cold and one hot option, biscuits and gravy (one of my faves, but these biscuits were spongy and the gravy was bland and canned tasting). I would have loved instant oatmeal and bananas. But still, it totally met my expectations for a free motel breakfast, so I can't really complain.
