Believe it or not, southern Mississippi is not known for its many fine hotels. I was delighted when checking in to the Jackson Hilton to find it was newly-renovated and well above what I have come to expect in a Hilton, in Mississippi or elsewhere. The front desk staff, upon seeing me arrive with two teenagers, suggested that perhaps two adjoining rooms would suit our needs better than the suite I had reserved. They then honored the price I had agreed to pay for the suite for the two rooms. The bar had an excellent guitar player in the evening, and although the hotel is away from downtown, it is close to many places to eat out. I had a great stay and would certainly stay there again.

Accomodations, location, and food were excellent. I loved this Hilton. I felt at home and the staff was very friendly. I was forced to extend my stay and had no problems. I requested a late check-out and had no problems. I arrived about 1am and had no problems. This is just was I needed after being forced to take a bus from Memphis, since my flight was cancelled. The hotel is located on the north end of Jackson and is convenient to the sights of the city. It's close to many restaurants, but I found their menu to be appealing and the food to be excellent. I tried the Gulf fish w/ shellfish in brown sauce and it was terrific. The morning buffet was a bargain at $10. The bed was comfortable and I found it very quiet. Nearby, you'll find the Nature/Science Museum. Check this place out. For $4, you can't go wrong. Also, about 15 minutes away, you'll find the Dresden exhibit at the Jackson Arts Pavilion(for a limited time). It's well worth it. Hilton is a sponsor and it's good to see community involvement. My only annoyance was the difficulty in turning left out of the parking lot. Be careful. I'd definitely stay here again.

MY stay at Hilton in Jackson was o.k. The problem was the sales and management people. My family was the hosting members and the Hilton was our choice because we had never had a problem before. Upon arrival, The area for us to set up our registration tables were not ready. That was understandable since a group was there ahead of us. But to be over an hour getting our area cleaned and ready is unacceptable. There were no managers around when we had problems or need something. We finally got started two hours later than anticipated. Our waiters at the buffet were the most awesome people there!! On day two, Once again, our area was not prepared for us. We had to wait for this to be done once again.
The worst part of this day was when Martha (the sales manager) came to tell us three hours before the banquet was to began, that they could not fix the steaks the way we requested. The number of steaks and the way they were to be prepared was given to her earlier that morning.
Nothing was said. She even denied ever talking to anyone about fixing steaks different ways or the cost it would be for children. It was like the "bait and switch" routine. Say what you want to hear to get you there and take your money then switch everything when its time to deliver. Then the final day (Sunday Morning) the so called manager, Gene Slaughter was afraid to come and collect money because we had gone over the contracted number of people. He sent the waiter to get the money from us before we were ready to check out. We did not ever give them the impression that we were trying to skip out or leave without paying. I was appalled at the treatment we received from the executive level of staff people at the Hilton. Why were we treated so badly after patronizing Hilton in Jackson? We used cash for all serves, then we had over one hundred guest from almost every state in the union to spend the weekend at the Hilton. My question remain, Why? Why? Why? Why would we pay people that much money (over $13,000) to be treated in such a way? I say to you Steve Bohanan, CEO, Why? Is this something you would tolerate if it was your family?

I was kind of disappointed with the Jackson Hilton. It is at best an average to low end Hilton, despite it's promise to be the "best of the South". I usually stay at Hiltons, and probably will continue to do so, but maybe not when my travel takes me to Jackson. The facilities of the hotel were decent, sort of on par with all the other Hiltons I have spent a night at, but the staff was really quite bad. Hotels are hotels for the most part, but what really makes a stay stand out is how you feel when you leave. This hotel sort of left me with an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I spent my time at this hotel near Christmas, and I realize that it is probably a slow time at hotels, but they completely closed down their restaurant and room service and even sent me to another hotel to eat! They sent me to the Walthall hotel in downtown (which is nearly 20 minutes away) just to have dinner. The traffic around the Jackson Hilton is also a problem. It is right off an interstate exit that is a bit underbuilt, and therefore traffic congestion is constant. When I pulled out of the Hilton parking lot to go and eat dinner at the Walthall hotel, it took me five minutes just to get out of the parking lot.

So, to sum it up, this hotel is okay, much like dozens of other hotels I have stayed at, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially given its location so distant from downtown Jackson, and also its consistently unpleasant staff.
