“Good hotel, few food options close by”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Stayed here only one night, the rooms are good. But few restaurant options in the area. Ended by in a Sushi bar, which was ok.the front desk was very friendly and helpful.asked for a high floor and got one with no problem.

This Marriott is older and the furniture in the quest rooms is older and in need of update. However, that did not detract from my comfort at this hotel. Perhaps my Marriott status affected my stay but I was given a nice room (not a suite but a nice quiet room) and the bed was comfortable. When the room attendant asked how the room was my DH asked about more of the chocolates that were left on the bed - we got about two dozen. Since this was my first time at the hotel the parking fee was waived. The evening concierge was very efficient and friendly and the offerings were tasty. This hotel may not appeal to people who do not have at least gold status with Marriott but, for those who do, they will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Try and get a high room so you have a good view of the city and downtown.

This is a typical Marriott hotel. If you understand the brand, that's what you're getting here, but with above average service. I was in town working as part of the team responding to Hurricane Isaac. Staff helped me keep extending my stay at a good rate when they could have easily chosen to do otherwise. My room was clean and quiet. Only complaints were a lack of HBO on the TV, slow wireless service, and the food in the Concierge lounge quite terrible.

The top line hotels in the Hyatt, Hilton, Starwood and Marriott Chain can be interchanged. One would expect and be entitled to the highest quality. What distinguishes this hotel is the staff that goes above and beyond. I was there in time for Hurricane Isaac. The staff went out of their way to be accommodating, friendly and helpful. Obviously, someone in management took the time to explain to them that the customer is what hotel service is about.
Corporate Management take note. (However, what drives me up a wall is why the top of the brand charges for Internet.)

Rooms were musty smelling and they dumped tons of deodorizer to try to cover that smell, but it didn't help. The rooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable. The in-hotel dining was terrible, food was not good and the service was worse. Took 45 minutes to get one drink. The staff at the hotel front desk/check-in were very nice and quite helpful, unlike those in the dining area, who were apathetic.

The hotel is an older Marriott Hotel and it shows, you can tell the ownership of the hotel does not care about updating the hotel.
TV in rooms were very old CRT style and few channels to watch
Carpets were stained and dirty
Parking lot is very old and looks it could fall down at any time.
I had dinner in the bar area I had to ask twice for them to clean off the area I was sitting at, Bartender did not care about how clean his area was.

I would NOT stay her again nor do I recommend this hotel

The staff here personified the 'Southern Hospitality' we hear about. Unfortunately my hotel room was fairly dated and I have a very old TV (CRT type) and the picture was fuzzy. Breakfast is ok. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and it was disconcertingly quiet in the area outside the hotel and in the hotel itself. So being 'central' in town doesn't actually mean its in that great a place. I wasn't able to turn the aircon off so it kept kicking on and off during the night and waking me up.
