“Great museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

It is a nice stop in Jackson, MS and probably my personal favorite of all activities I did. It is a smallish building by museum standards but that is because it is the old Capital building. So it is really wonderful to visit a building that has so much history and walk around in it, beautiful structure as well. There are only 7-8 rooms with information to see, I took my time and got through the museum in a little over an hour. Great combination of our building's history along with the state's history.

There is also a monument to fallen Confederate soldiers, another war monument and a history archive on the same property.

“Nice exhibits and interpretive Info”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

If you enjoy history in any form, you will find something to enjoy here. Volunteers and staff members will take you back in time for a memorable experience. The exhibits are nicely done, and the guides will make sure you experience true “southern hospitality.” If you are visiting from out of town, out of state, or out of the country, the folks here will also be very helpful in helping you discover other great places to visit, depending on your interests.

“Beautiful building with entertaining exhibits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

A beautiful building restored to its earlier incarnation after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The architecture, especially the dome, stairs, and columns are very picture worthy. The displays are very informative but set up so they are accessible to many age levels. Several of the exhibits are interactive and kept our 11 year old busy while he learned some of the history of Jackson, civil rights, and politics.
The staff are very hospitable; the lady who welcomed us explained the basics of the building and its history, gave us our brochures and scan tickets for some of the interactive exhibits, and gave brochures and suggestions for sites to visit in Jackson and the surrounding areas. She made us feel like honored guests instead of just another tourist family.
The tour is self-guided which allowed us to move at our own pace and even divide up to linger at certain exhibits or rush ahead to others. After a few loops around, we all managed to see everything.
Bathrooms are modern and incredibly clean.
There is no charge but we contributed to the donation box because this place needs to be preserved for the future. A few items for sale are available at the front desk.
