“Only Vegan place in Jackson I could find.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2011

Ok. This isn't a California style restaurant so you need to be a little understanding. It is a soulful place with pleasant employees which were playing very loud rap. That was fine and added to the experience. This isn't gourmet so do not expect it. It is burgers and fries and in my case West African Vegan Burger with Eggplant Fries. This was a perfect dinner to sit and watch the first quarter of the Monday night football game. I bought a $3.00 Amstel light and relaxed. The food was very good and the service was relatively fast. It isn't fast food so do not expect it in 2 minutes. Mine took about 10 minutes as they prepare to order. Atmosphere is shall we say unique...maybe a little beat down...but it works. This isn't a date night place...just a place to get, in my case, the only vegan meal in town.

“Seriously!????”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2011

I honestly dont get what the deal is with this place. The service is despicable. The food was at best so-so. I mean after sitting for a good twenty minutes...how good could it be?? All I ordered was a basic burger and fries and had to wait 45 minutes with no one else in front of me!! I dont know why people in this town accept that mess like its ok. The end product was nowhere near worth the wait. This place is entirely overrated.

“Best hamburger and lemonade in the world, no joke!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2010

We had the classic (5 oz) and the Sinbad BBQ (8 oz). This was plenty of food with a shared order of sweet potato fries. The burgers are THICK! They are made once you get there so they are super fresh. Be prepared to wait 20 minutes or so but so worth it! The lemonade is truly the best I have ever had. One lady came in just to get some while we were there. Please know that they do not spend money on the decor so even though Southern Living raves about them, do NOT expect a pretty inside. You are coming for the food! And it will have you going back (I will!!!!)

“Good burger, long wait.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2010

Burger was good, but not really any better than I've had in other places. Not a fast food burger though, definitely beats fast food! Service slow so don't go if in a hurry.

“My Pick for Jackson's best Burger!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2009

My favorite burger...PERIOD! Other towns boast of a "favorite burger" joint, but they pale in comparison to Al's! This is it for the burger lover!!! Crumb snatcher (5oz), small (8oz) and "better be hungry for this" large (15oz!!) come as plain or loaded as you choose. Flavor is up to you with Al's special seasonings, and the meat is always cooked to perfection. Try his turkey burger on wheat (you just have to...at least once), a PETA praised veggie burger, or a variety of other specialties, including the vegetarian West African burger (yum!). Hand cut fries, rings, sweet potato chips or fries (LOVE them!), and homemade chili. Voted best burger many times over by Jackson Free Press readers.

Atmosphere is very "hole in the wall" (but that's a good thing in this case) with XM satellite's Jamaican channel or classic old school R&B always on...and cranked! Always friendly Al Stamps is easily spotted in the open "see what we do here" kitchen with a huge smile and greeting for his customers. Stamps' wife Kim is usually seen finishing off your burger to spec, and a number on the table gets food out to the right hungry mouth.

Expect a 15-20 minute wait (even when it's not very busy) because, lets' face it...perfection takes time. Call ahead if you are in a rush, especially at peak lunch and dinner times. Busier periods may garner you a 45 minute - one hour wait.

Treat yourself. You deserve this. A ten will get you in and well fed, but bring a buck or two more: you may have to try the fries AND rings!! Cash and cards accepted. Open Mon-Saturday 10a-9p.
