“Ending a Birthday with a Bang!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I heard about this venue through a relative who lives in the area. After reading a few reviews, I decided to make a reservation to celebrate my Fiance's birthday with his family. In speaking with Michael, the owner, over the phone, he was very pleasant! I explained the type of atmosphere I'd like to have us celebrate in and he assured me that The Almanett would not disappoint!

We arrived, although tardy because our previous event ran long, and the staff was very accommodating. The 11th Hour Band was playing in front of an almost-full bar crowd, so we decided to sit on the restaurant side to eat, drink, and enjoy. The music is live, which also means loud. We considered migrating to the bar side, but decided to stay in the restaurant so we could enjoy our conversations.

Our server was knowledgeable of the menu, portion sizes, and made great recommendations!
We started off with a Lemon Tini and a cocktail that were made really well. Our meals consisted of the fried fish entree for our parents and a Seafood Sampler/Platter for us. The size of the fish filets were perfect. It was seasoned well and fried to a great crispiness, yet moist on the inside. In addition to the fish, our platter offered fried shrimp that was cooked well, and a crab cake. The crab cake left us desiring more. Although a decent size, the dish only had one cake. The cake was very bread-y and seasoned too much. We've enjoyed crab cakes at various restaurants and appreciate the ones where the crab is the highlight rather than the additives. All entrees come with one side. We all enjoyed the sweet potato fries as side items - they were the perfect texture and seasoned with just the right amount of salt.

To top off our culinary excursion, we had the rum/raisin cheesecake. Not to often do you come across a smooth, creamy, cheesecake with the PERFECT amount of sweetness in a restaurant that does not specialize in cheesecake. This cheesecake defied that odd! It was topped with a yummy rum sauce that was cooked to the ideal flavor. If it's not on the menu the day/night you go, ask about it :).

The atmosphere on the Saturday night warranted fun! My Fiance' and I enjoyed dancing to a couple of songs in front of the fireplace, reuniting with a few of his past coastal friends, a little serenading, laughs ... an overall blessed, fulfilling celebration!

We're looking forward to making The Almanett a place that we visit each time we're on the MS Coast, whether it's dinner at the restaurant or spending the weekend at one of the contemporary suites for the full boutique hotel experience!

We got stuck in Gulfport, so we took the last room that Tasha had available. The Bistro has excellent food, and the rooms (all named after Almanett's daughters) were SO accommodating and beautiful. We also got to see The Pink Magnolias (Jazz sister trio from New Orleans) and enjoy yummy margaritas on Friday night. A must stay B&B or at least stop in for lunch, dinner or cocktails!!

We had a lovely room with a balcony over looking the Gulf. The room was clean and beautifully decorated as was the whole house. It is a very new property, but the management has not quite got their act together. We stayed two nights and our room was not made up on our second day. We were the only guests. The restaurant was supposed to be open on Wednesday, but it wasn't. We had to ask for a cork screw which was graciously provided, but the rooms were not really fully equiped. The space was small, but there was a good deal of thought put into the art work and decorations. We would love to see this place make it, but it needs on-site management and reliable maid service.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floor have a lovely view of the Gulf Coast. It is a quiet location.

This is a small bed and breakfast type with 6 rooms, all unique and a very nice 2 room guest cottage. All rooms except one has a walk-out balcony with a view of the gulf. The bistro features a limited menu but all items are excellent. The lollipop lambs were especially good. Prices are reasonable for what you get - this is a perfect romantic getaway.

Room Tip: The Master Suite or the 2-room cottage.

This new boutique hotel and bistro gives more than what you're expecting when you arrive. The staff is so hospitable and exceeded our expectations while we were there. The entire property was gorgeous and the views wee breathtaking. I will be going back to stay longer next time!
