“An Absolute Dump, in Desparate Need of a Cleaning, Remodel Job, or Demolition!!”
Wow, this place is without question, the worst Ramada I've ever stayed at, and possibly the filthiest & most disgusting hotel I've ever seen! I cannot believe this is a chain hotel. I'm not even sure where to start.
The outside appearance: When I pulled into the parking lot, I first thought the place was closed. I knew that Hurricane Katrina took a toll on this area of Southern Mississippi, but there were several things that should have been repaired by now, (11 months later). There are no Ramada signs outside the hotel. They haven't been repaired since the Hurricane. The southern wing of the hotel is closed off, due to roof damage from Katrina. There was trash & litter all over the parking lot, and in the landscape. The grass is about 8 inches high, and it appears that no landscape work has been done for some time.
The Indoor pool area: I checked in early, (around 7AM), and there were beer cans & bottles/other trash, spread all over the pool sitting area. This area is carpeted, and there were burn holes all over (from cigarettes). The next day, all this trash was still around the pool area, so housekeeping isn't a top priority here. The indoor pool area has a tropical theme, and there was trash, garbage, and cigarette butts in the landscape. This was still here when I checked out, a few days later. (It was so bad, I didn't want to take my shoes off).
The Pool: Probably the worst maintained pool I've seen. The water was so cloudy, that I couldn't see the bottom of the pool! The spa had yellowish-colored suds at the surface! I would've felt safer swimming in a lake!
The Room: In need of a makeover & a serious cleaning. The floor of the bathtub was black, (original color was off white). There were hairs (from previous tenants) on the tub walls. There was mildew (very thick mildew) on the tub walls & in the corners. The sheets/blankets were clean & thick, but the beds were old & uncomfortable. There were only 13 channels that came in on the TV, and 3 of the 13 had good resolution. The other channels had a lot of static, and background noise. I went to the front desk about this, and they told me that since Katrina, the channels don't come in the greatest, when there is heavy cloud cover. What a crock! A chain hotel, almost a year later, and they give me that excuse. They did have wireless internet available, (only in designated rooms), but the connection was extremely slow, comparable to dial-up. The carpet was so disgusting, that I was afraid to walk barefoot in my room. (I walked around my room for a few minutes, after getting out of the shower, and I noticed that my brand new, white socks were black on the bottom, because of the dirty carpet).
The Hallways: It looks like they weren't cleaned in months. There were burn holes, empty beer cans, wrappers, all over the floors! The carpet had duct tape at many of the seams, throughout the entire hotel. The front desk said this was due to Katrina, but come on! Almost a year later, and the carpet hasn't been repaired?
The "Fitness Room": On the Ramada website, they claim they have a fitness room. Actually, it's a few workout machines, placed in an open area, next to the indoor pool. The equipment was in very bad shape. A few empty beer cans, and other trash, also in this area.
The "On-Site Night Club": Friendly staff, but the entire night club needs renovation. In the lounge area of the night club, the carpet had burn holes and gum, all over the place. I could barely see through the windows to the outside. The padded chairs had many tears/rips.
The conclusion: I'm sure I missed a few things, but you get the picture. I highly recommend that you keep driving past this place! This appears to be a hotel that was very nice, (maybe 10 years ago), but they are in desparate need of a giant renovation. They need to update the rooms, the pool area, and the night club. The housekeeping staff also needs to do a better job. They have no continental breakfast, and no coffee in the lobby! I'll always be reminded of this place, the next time I'm contemplating staying at a Ramada.
