“Wonderful B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013 via mobile

There were 4 couples in our group that enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Generals Quarters. The owner greeted us upon our arrival and was very accommodating. He was there if we had questions but left us to ourselves to enjoy the home and the area. Our room was prepared for our arrival with the lights on and the air conditioning going. My husband and I enjoyed a quite stroll along the tree lined street to look at the historic homes and church, after which we rejoined our group for a dinner in the restaurant. The dinner and service were good as well as the breakfast the following morning. If we are back in the area, we will certainly return to the Quarters.

Our work team traveling together stayed at the Generals Quarters. We have a great corporate rate. The ambience is wonderful and if you do not appreciate history, then this is not a place to stay. The creaks and decor remind one of the old South. I have to agree with another reviewer that the gift shop as you first walk in is a bit not sophisticated. I had Room 4 and it was lovely. I was surprised the young lady working on the Grill area had very little knowledge of the house. We drove to Hagy's catfish hotel for dinner and I am dying to being my husband here to see Shiloh. We probably would stay in Room 6 next time!

Very delightful place to stay in Corinth,MS. It is just a short walk to down town and shopping. The food was good and the owners were very nice to their guests. The second floor balcony porch was a perfect place for evening cocktails and conversation. We will stay there when we visit the area.

Understand that Corinth, Mississippi doesn't have much other than the Corinth battle site and nearby Shiloh. In many respects the Generals Quarters matches the state of the town. The house was clean and comfortable enough but definitely shows its age. The breakfast was more like some of the hotel chains' microwave packaged stuff.

OK accommodations but not worth the rate.

Corinth is definitely an old Civil War Town. Our home was originally built as a church in 1869 and converted to a home in 872. Our last full scale renovation was in 2010 but we are painting and repairing on a daily basis. Corinth does indead have lots of Civil War history but it also has a beautiful lake nearby with some of the best bass fishing, and water sports anywhere. Seven major golf courses withing a 20 minute drive, and hiking and biking trails abound. If you enjoy four wheeling we have some of the best trails to ride in the south. Graham's country store has top notch country music and Pickin on the Square brings in the best Blue Grass Performers in the area for free entertainment every Thursday evening. Rock climbing and repelling in Tish State Park is just minutes away. Our downtown is alive with new shops, restaurants, and tours. Corinth boasts one of best small theater groups and full symphony orchestras that together perform over 26 events a year. I am sorry that our guest was obviously not aware of these events and attractions bul I have only begun to mention what is available.

We spent five wonderful days in the Earl Van Dorn suite (has its own private entrance) at the General's Quarters in Corinth. The intent was primarily as a romantic getaway with the secondary purpose of leisurely touring Shiloh National Military park, about 25 minutes drive away. The character of the B&B and the lovely old neighborhood in which it is located was such that it added immensely to the enjoyment of touring Shiloh by virtually taking you back in time. However, you still have the niceties of wireless internet, cable TV, central heat and air conditioning and the other 21st century technology advances that we all have come to take for granted. They are there, but they don't get in the way of that "back in time" feeling.

The owners were helpful and always available when needed, but not intrusive in any way. You almost felt you had the whole B&B to yourself much of the time. I have to say, most mornings we slept in late so we missed all but one breakfast which was very nice. We did enjoy a couple of lunches in the Pittsburg Landing Grille which is part of the B&B. The service and food were very good.

There were a few things that prevented us from rating our stay 5-star instead of 4-star. For the most part, they were minor, but enough of an annoyance to point out. The room did not get serviced one day, finding the "sweet spot" for the room heating at night was nigh impossible, and even given the fact we knew we were staying in a period building, the carpeting was definitely worn and dated. Again, we were in the Van Dorn suite. Other rooms and suites may vary.

On balance however we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next visit.

This is a pretty house with a nice yard in a beautiful neighborhood. When you walk in the front door you are immediately in a sales area of varying styles of purses, pottery, paper napkins and cook-out utensils. This merchandise diminishes the welcome of the entry hall and detracts from the staircase. On inspection, our room was clean but the furniture was very tired. The four poster bed had one post that was broken and leaned over sideways. The veneer on the armoire was extensively chipped and broken. Pictures and wall hangings were tacky. The covered balcony off the second floor landing was cozy and secluded so we sat out there in the evening. Breakfast the first morning was scrambled eggs and processed ham cubes, a heat-and-eat biscuit and orange juice. Breakfast the second day was five perfectly shaped room temperature heat-and-eat pancakes about the size of your palm arranged in a circle around the plate with a serving of canned pears in the center topped with whipped cream and dusted with cinnamon. The syrup was served cold. The presentation of the plate did not make up for the quality of the food. The rooms were clean but the quality of the furnishings and the food spoke volumes about how the owners feel about their place and their guests.

We recently spent 2 nights at the Generals’ Quarters in Corinth, MS. Our original destination was Shiloh, TN but if you plan to stay over in the area – go to Corinth. Corinth is a small town but with lots of history and much to see. That, paired with a trip to Shiloh, TN, is a perfect 2-day trip. Ignoring the usual cookie-cutter chain motels one finds in smaller towns, we opted for a Bed and Breakfast establishment and were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted by an employee who gave us maps, sightseeing brochures and suggestions for dinner. Luke’s breakfasts both mornings were delicious and gave us a good start to our day. I only wish we could have tarried a bit longer in the lovely eating area with another cup of coffee, but the Civil War sites were calling. Our room (ground floor, #6) was very large, clean, and the bath had plenty of hot water and a shower with all the water pressure one could want. It may be in an older Victorian era-type home with period furniture, but the room has a large flat screen TV – so don’t worry that it will be too authentic. Although we never saw the owner (they live next door) except at breakfast, we had the occasion to phone and ask a question. Someone picked up right away, which was comforting to know in case we really had a problem. In other words we weren’t really alone – although it was so peaceful, it felt that way. Our Wi-fi worked fine, and although I didn’t partake, I noticed every evening there were cookies available on the side board in the dining room, together with a Kuerig-type coffee maker for tea or coffee. I also noticed a soda machine in the hallway. Snacks have been anticipated!
Make sure you ride around and look at the lovely old homes in the neighborhood, and not just the ones listed in the brochures where General so and so spent the night, but the homes on tree-lined streets where people live today. It’s just a beautiful area around the Generals’ Quarters.
Although we probably won’t be in the Corinth/Shiloh vicinity again, I would definitely recommend the Generals’ Quarters to any of my friends and to my friends on Trip Advisor, as the place to go.

Room Tip: We chose Room 6 as it was on the main floor and had a King bed. My husband has mobility problems an...
