My girlfriend and I have stayed at the Shack Up Inn several times before and each time was a great experience. However, we just stayed there last weekend and several of the shacks were rented by a large group of partying college kids who had rented the Hopson Commissary for a party.
After returning from Clarksdale we found the road full of cars and trucks and kids out drinking and partying in the yard. The group had around 20 people staying in shacks meant for 3 or 4 and partied all night long. The management was not on the grounds so I had to call the police (after nearly having a violent altercation with some of the frat boys).
What had been a great experience has now been ruined by the frequent parties at the Commissary. I talked to the owners the next day and they were very apologetic but said they had no control over who rented the shacks. The owner of the Commissary, James, stated he intends to keep renting the Commissary for parties and he encourages the partiers to stay at the shacks after their parties. The only problem is drunken college kids aren't very respectful and don't feel like being quiet when the Commissary closes at 1:30 a.m.
I had a reservation for the following night but the owner told me he had another party scheduled and they had rented some of the shacks. I told him I would have to cancel and I would never come back if they couldn't control their guests. The other owner was very nice and refunded my money from the previous night. It's a shame they will lose loyal customers to cater to such a rude, disrespectful crowd. It doesn't seem like a good business model at all. The next morning the grounds were trashed and I would hate to see the inside of the shacks the kids rented.
If you book a shack here, try to find out if there is a party going on that night (although they can't always tell how many shacks have been rented to the party group). If there is a party then you are on your own because the owners aren't there to control the guests and disturbing the peace is low on the Sheriff's office priority list. Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated event. One of the owners wants to rent the Commissary for parties and have them stay at the shacks afterwards. This is bad news for any decent people staying on the grounds, though.
