“Wonderful location and views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2010

We stayed for 3 nights in one of the new apartments which were spacious, clean and very comfortable. The location is stunning, quiet, but with plenty to do in the area. A walk along the Queen Charlotte track with a water taxi back from Portage was a highlight. It is in a remote location, so either bring your own provisions, or use the small selection of meals on offer from their shop... or enjoy the mussels from the local farm. Highly recommended.

I can't say enough good things about Te Mahia resort. An incredibly beautiful location, great hosts and lovely (good value) accomodation. Lots to do as well - including kayaking in the bay and walking some of the Queen Charlotte Track. Loved the place.

We hiked the length of the Queen Charlotte track and I am glad we spent our final night at the Te Mahia lodge. This was the best place we stayed, and the other places were good. The rooms we had were large, exquisitely appointed with fantastic views. The staff were more than helpful

I returned to Te Mahia, wondering if my second visit would live up to the wonderful memories of the first visit. I worried that such a long time away might've caused me to remember everything positive and therefore lead to possible disappointment but I shouldn't have worried. In fact, I was even more impressed on the second visit because Jann (Hook - Manageress) recognised me immediately I walked into the office. Jann and her husband Trevor have a wonderful rapport with people - making them feel totally relaxed and 'at home' at 'their special place' as they put it. The surroundings are even more stunning now, as the gardens have further matured and colour abounds. Whether you are looking for ambience or hosts with the 'special' touch, you will not be disappointed at Te Mahia - the epitome of NZ's clean, green image. I feel blessed to have found such a gem, to which I will continue to return.

Given the price relative to some other resorts and lodges, we weren't expecting a "resort", but wow were we wrong...and happy about it. It helped that it was a sunny day and we'd walked 25 km of Queen Charlotte Track to get there, but even so, we were impressed by the clean, nicely decorated heritage waterfront suite with its enormous deck and pristine views. Relaxed, friendly, lots of outdoor common space, and plenty of choices for dinner: Frozen home-cooked meals made by a local chef were a welcome alternative to peanuts and energy bars we'd packed just in case. Wine, beer and soft drinks rounded it out nicely. The interior was restored to brilliance yet loyal to its history. This accommodation was top value.

We had our wedding at Te Mahia in Feb 2010. We cannot recommend highly enough the resort, the staff and our hosts Jann and Trev Hook. Jann acted as wedding planner and celebrant and Trev managed all the finer details. My friends and family all had a fantastic time and this was largly due to the incredible work of Jann, Trev and their staff. Thanks to you all.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2010

We came to Te Mahia because of all the good reviews on Trip Advisor. We were in one of the Heritage Rooms. They are advertised as a self contained unit but in our unit (B) the bathroom was across the public hallway and up stairs which we don't class as self contained. The balcony outside our apartment was also not private but that was never advertised as such so I guess I shouldn't complain. It was just disconcerting to be in bed with kids walking past. When we complained about the bathroom situation Trevor was helpful but I'm afraid that Jann was the opposite and her attitude meant that we stayed one night and went and found alternative accommodation for the other three nights of out stay in the area. Disappointing.

We love sharing Te Mahia, its location, its heritage and this beautiful setting with our guests and with the wonderful team that work here.

The Heritage units are enjoyed by many of our guests and have some of the best views over Te Mahia Bay. Photographs on our website show the style of the building and the shared balcony which many guests find perfect for entertaining or relaxing with other guests or friends

Wherever possible we describe Te Mahia accommodation as self-catering rather than self-contained. The Heritage units are in the original 1930’s guest house, with the charm and style of that era, and come with their own lounges, kitchens, bedrooms and separate bathrooms. The modern motel units and luxury apartments are fully self-catering.
It’s important for you know that both of us do care - about you, our guests, to ensure you have a wonderful holiday and great memories.
