I seem to be going against the tide of excellent reviews on the Cart Barn Inn! Perhaps it's a "culture" thing as we are from Ireland. We booked this accommodation as part of our annual holiday to USA. We had visited Oxford previously and wanted to explore it further. All I can say is the Cart Barn Inn was not what we had expected.
First impressions were disappointing as the office/dining room/ reception/ family casual sitting area at the entrance was cluttered and dark. The kitchen was just beside this area and if the Inn had been full I really do not know how they would have managed. This was a one man band scenario. Apart from ourselves and the receptionist/cook/manageress, the only other customers I saw was a fleeting glimpse of a girl in a red dress "patrolling" the corridor, and I saw a few guys carrying beer into to a room later in the night.
This is a Cart Barn which has been turned into holiday accommodation. The dividing walls in the hall are corrugated sheeting cluttered with memorabilia from a bygone era (aka junk!) The room we got was clean, bathroom was clean also. The bed was horrendous. My back suffered as was no wonder as the large piece of hardboard which supported the mattress was visible as soon as we entered the room.
This accommodation is very far from restaurants etc. Oxford is the nearest city, which on Sunday when we arrived, tired and hungry, was where we had to travel to for a restaurant. The only food on offer in the nearby town was Sonic or Subway.
Breakfast on Monday morning was ok. Tuesday not so good. No choice. Had to ask what was on the menu. Sort of "take it or leave it" menu!
All in all we were very disappointed in Cart Barn Inn. Will not be in the vicinity again but if we were we would not be returning to Cart Barn Inn. It was few months ago we stayed there but I do remember it was one of the more expensive accom. we had booked and it was the worst! Certainly put us off B and B accom. In USA.
