“Not a good experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

I seem to be going against the tide of excellent reviews on the Cart Barn Inn! Perhaps it's a "culture" thing as we are from Ireland. We booked this accommodation as part of our annual holiday to USA. We had visited Oxford previously and wanted to explore it further. All I can say is the Cart Barn Inn was not what we had expected.

First impressions were disappointing as the office/dining room/ reception/ family casual sitting area at the entrance was cluttered and dark. The kitchen was just beside this area and if the Inn had been full I really do not know how they would have managed. This was a one man band scenario. Apart from ourselves and the receptionist/cook/manageress, the only other customers I saw was a fleeting glimpse of a girl in a red dress "patrolling" the corridor, and I saw a few guys carrying beer into to a room later in the night.

This is a Cart Barn which has been turned into holiday accommodation. The dividing walls in the hall are corrugated sheeting cluttered with memorabilia from a bygone era (aka junk!) The room we got was clean, bathroom was clean also. The bed was horrendous. My back suffered as was no wonder as the large piece of hardboard which supported the mattress was visible as soon as we entered the room.

This accommodation is very far from restaurants etc. Oxford is the nearest city, which on Sunday when we arrived, tired and hungry, was where we had to travel to for a restaurant. The only food on offer in the nearby town was Sonic or Subway.

Breakfast on Monday morning was ok. Tuesday not so good. No choice. Had to ask what was on the menu. Sort of "take it or leave it" menu!

All in all we were very disappointed in Cart Barn Inn. Will not be in the vicinity again but if we were we would not be returning to Cart Barn Inn. It was few months ago we stayed there but I do remember it was one of the more expensive accom. we had booked and it was the worst! Certainly put us off B and B accom. In USA.

We stayed here for 2 nights in March as part of our quest to escape the Minnesota cold and snow. We were very pleased with our accommodations, it was a nice change of pace from traditional hotel rooms. We stayed in the Gardenia Suite, it was comfortable and spacious. The Gardenia suite is located close to the large back patio. When we were there the daytime temperatures were pleasant and the evenings were cool. We did not spend time in the evening on the patio but it would be great in a little warmer weather.
The breakfast was home cooked and very good. There is coffee in the dining room but it would have been nice to have a small coffee maker in the room.
Bruce is a small town and does not have a lot of options for dining. We did eat at a small hometown café, we had catfish and shrimp, both the food and service were very good.

Great to know every now and then I can get away from the major hotels and stay at a place like this. Rooms are clean and big, service is excellent!! The innkeeper tended to my dietary needs during breakfast "going the extra mile".

We had a fun :-) group of football fans take the entire Inn when we traveled to see our Aggies play Ole Miss in Oxford. The Cart Barn Inn was the perfect place for our group...the hosts (Kim and family) were SO nice and accommodating. The rooms were meticulously clean and the breakfasts were delicious. The Inn is very close to Oxford compared to other places we heard about from friends. We look forward to returning the next time the Ags are in Mississippi!

Our entire group stayed at the Cart Barn for the A&M/Ole Miss game. It was a great experience and an easy drive to Oxford. The service and breakfasts were so wonderful and the innkeepers were so accommodating and helpful. A definite great place to stay.

Room Tip: The queen suites are huge and it is very quite
