From the outside, the Beau Rivage looks to be a first class hotel and casino. However upon closer review it is anything but. The parking garage is a very long walk from the rooms. My husband went for a conference, so we went as a family. The only way to carry your luggage via a cart is for a bellman to do it. There was a line of cars out onto Beach Blvd. so we opted to try it ourselves. BIG MISTAKE. We had to carry two small children and bags onto elevators down then out through the whole hotel along all the shops. This is an extremely long walk especially for little children and those that have special needs.
The elevators to the hotel rooms are right next to the casino. The area is smoky and full of all sort of characters especially after 8 pm. If that didn't cause enough frustration our rooms were situated as far from the elevators as possible. When we arrived in our room it was very cramped. Since we have a baby and had to store milk, I immediately looked for the refrigerator. There IS NO REFRIGERATOR or MICROWAVE or even a COFFEE POT!!!! I called the front desk and the lady was very kind explaning that there was nothing she could do about the microwave and I would have to try and heat the babies milk in a cup of hot water from the sink. (WHAT??? thought this was a first class hotel) They provided a refrigerator for $25 a DAY!!!!
The fees didn't stop from there. If you want to use the internet on your laptop you are charged $11.99 per IP address per 24 hour period. Also there wasn't even a DVD player in the rooms and only 20 channels. To add to the charges you can't take any drinks or food to the pool area. We thought we would just order something to snack on at the poolside cafe that the hotel talks about . NOOOOOO The cafe is ONLY OPEN on the WEEKENDS!! We had to order room service poolside. They add a 18% gratutity charge and $2 delivery charge to the $12 sandwhich!!! YIKES!!!
All and all it was very eye opening since the last time we went as a family we went to the Grand Casino's Oasis Hotel (pre-Katrina) and it was wonderful and extremely family friendly. However, since Katrina distroyed it, this was not an option. The Beau Rivage has a long way to go before considering itself 5 star.
