“Fascinating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

This is a small, lovely museum right on the beach front with ample parking in the back. The Frank Gehry buildings themselves are worth going to see. Fascinating pods! There are several exhibits, but only one is permanent, I believe. That is the exhibit of the potter George Ohr. Other exhibits are changed every 6 months. Current shows are the Gallery of African American Art and paintings by Frank Janca. I have been several times and have never been disappointed; rather, I have enjoyed and learned from each one. There is currently a potter on site at certain hours who gives demonstrations, and has ware to sell.

The gift shop is nicely stocked with pottery from area artisans, as well as textiles, books, jewelry..... Fun shopping, and a knowledgeable staff.

The food is rather snacky, sandwiches, chips, etc.

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

The buildings the museum occupies were designed by Frank Geary. That led us to expect interesting architecture. However, we found them nicely but not particularly exceptional. Two of the buildings (the Pods) are not yet open. Perhaps the interiors will be interesting once they’re completed. The Ohr pottery displayed was not impressive to us, and the number of pieces was rather limited. The Pods are intended to house his work. Perhaps more will be displayed once the Pods are opened, reportedly later this year. I would say that this museum is interesting enough to warrant a visit if you’re already on the Gulf Coast and looking for something to do, but not a reason in itself for going there.

Unique architecture with very interesting art exhibits. Nice gift shop with locally made pottery and gifts. Beautiful grounds and beach views along with giant trees that survived Katrina

“Nice for art and history lovers!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

George Ohr was a great artist. Love most of his work and it is found all over the city. Nice that they teach at the museum and have local artist art for sale and on display. I was pleasantly surprised at all the history provided there also. Good place to stop.

“Quirky museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Frank Gehry designed museum is well worth a visit, if only for the architecture. At present, the exhibits are a bit sparse, but more pods are being added. Some interesting displays of the work of Ohr, the mad potter of Biloxi. Depending on when you visit, you may be able to see local potters at work.
