Liked the beach and water and snack bar that wasn't really costly like I expected. Take suntan lotion!!

“So much fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Ship Island is so fun! I never get tired of going!! You should definitely walk to the south side of the island. The water is better & that's where all the chairs & umbrellas for rent are. Make sure to wear shoes... it gets really hot! Bring a rolling cooler, too.. it's a long walk with a big cooler to carry! Such a good time, every time!

“a must see.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

great area clear water. make sure to take sun tan lotion and an umbrella, the sun can get intense. I lost my watch in the shallow water but after 15 minutes of looking we found it. we both got sunburned anyway. very nice day.

“Fun family beach day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

If you love the beach, you'll love the trip to Ship Island. Beautiful beaches. You can stay with the crowd or venture off down the beach for more privacy. Be prepared for a walk across the island, and lots of heat and sun.

“Best beach between Texas and Alabama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

We live in Louisiana and LOVE to visit Ship Island for a quick beach getaway. We usually pack some adult beverages (canned or plastic, NO GLASS), then pack twice (or three times) as much water. It is HOT and you seriously need to reapply sunblock every hour. There is very little shade and lots of open space between landmarks, so do not plan on going barefooted or without some type of head protection. If you do not feel like lugging umbrellas consider renting one when you get there or at the ticket office. If you forget anything, there is a little snack bar on the island that serves food and beverages, and also supplies floats, sand toys and souvenirs. However, you will spend about twice as much than you would spend back in the city. You can bring a cooler with everything you need for the day but make sure it's very easy to transport because it can be a tiring walk from the boat to the beach. This last time we visited was the first time I have seen a large number of sting rays close to the beach, however this did not deter many swimmers as well as ourselves. They seemed to be easily scared off by any movement though you could see them swimming in the shallow water which was a little freaky at first. Overall we love it and will continue to visit!
