“Amazing food and wines, and very special place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

I booked a three night break at La Grande Mason for my wife’s birthday, we had booked for September as we wanted to be out of the school holidays, but still (hopefully) enjoy the nice weather. The experience of booking, to the arrival, to the warm and friendly hospitality from Sue and Micaela, the excellent food, great wines and a stunning location, we really could not fault the holiday at all. We had booked the wine tour package, and we enjoyed private tours and tastings in some very special and unique vineyards. The break was exceptionally relaxing and enjoyable but we also managed to learn a great deal about wines. Sue and Micaela have opened up their dream home for you to stay in, and you really do get an insight into the lives and history of the people of this region, but with extremely good levels of luxury and hospitality. We will be booking for next year!!!!

Room Tip: Thier are 4 rooms, and they all looked amazing. the one we stayed in had excellent quality linens...

We stayed for two nights in August and wouldn't be able to think of anything to fault. La Grande Maison was absolutely perfect for relaxation, delicious breakfasts and such a warm welcome. In short, without question, book a break here!

We stayed 2 nights with a wine tour. Michaela and Sue were the best of hosts. Dinner the first night was as good as any we had in or out of Paris. The House was in the country, old, and charming. Could not decide to take a walk or enjoy the grounds. Michaela's tour or 3 wineries was very informative and we got to visit troglodytic wine storage, which we may not have otherwise, if on our own. Lunch on the Loire River was picturesque. The rave reviews are absolutely accurate. I can not say enough.

After staying here it's easy to see why almost every review is five stars. This is exactly what you visualize when you think of a small country inn among the vineyards in French wine country. Everything was wonderful, quiet and well done. My room was the old bakery and and very charming and nicely decorated. You can bike or just relax and play with the dogs. The wine tasting dinners were absolutely fantastic and Micaela's knowledge of the wines and their history at dinner was exceptional. Sue's knowledge of the wineries during the tours was equally impressive. Don't miss Sue's blue cheese biscuits. The area has a number of chateaus you can visit and great little restaurants. I hope to get back some day.

We loved our stay at La Grande Maison and immediately found ourselves unwinding as we breathed in the fresh air amongst the hollyhocks. Sue and Micaela were great hosts and went out of their way to help us however they could, from booking a table at the local restaurant to lending us bikes and maps so we could ride around the vineyards and wildflower meadows. It's easy to unwind in the sheltered garden, surrounded by hollyhocks of many colours. We found ourselves regretting that we didn't have time to go on one of the wine tours as Sue is obviously both knowledgeable and passionate on the subject. It was inspiring to notice all the little touches around the place that make it feel both rooted in history but also gently embracing a modern aesthetic. The rooms were excellent with plenty of original features and luxurious bed linen and it's hard to imagine anything more lovely than sitting in the pigeonnier drinking a glass of rose, looking out over fields as far as the eye can see. The breakfasts were lovely, in fact I'm still missing my apricot compote and fromage blanc now. We would also recommend the nearby restaurant Le Logis de Pompois for a special meal - the cheese board is not to be missed. Thanks very much for a great stay and we hope to see you again.

We were looking for a short break in the Loire Valley and spent three delightful nights at Le Grand Maison. Micaela and Sue are wonderful hosts and made us very welcome – even sorting out restaurant reservations. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and really comfortable – thoughtfully planned, cosy rooms and lovely rustic furniture. The historic buildings are located in a beautifully rural setting surrounded by vineyards and the walled gardens are a joy to relax in. The highlight of the visit must be the evening supper and wine tasting. An enjoyable meal coupled with matching wines. Much more information would spoil the fun of discovering what Le Grand Maison has to offer – but it comes highly recommended.

Room Tip: The Mezzaine Room in the main house has great charm and would be hard to better.

In October of 2011, my sister and I took a trip to France. We wanted to do a wine tour in the Loire and found La Grande. WOW! After being in Paris for a few days we LOVED the get away to the Loire. It was exactly what we needed and were looking for. It is a little pice of heaven. La Grande is run by two exceptional hosts. It was perfect from beginning to end. It started with a walk around the vineyards to us touring and falling in love with the beauty of the Loire. Here are some of my blogs about our time at La Grande: http://travelwithlaughter.com//?s=loire

Highly recommend and can't wait to return someday!
