“Decent HI Express, HVAC concerns”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

I stayed here on a moderately warm (75+) evening. AC seems to be set in such away that I can not cool room temp as low as I would like. 67 is the lowest available, and even that I think may be inaccurate ( to save money?). No "fan on at all times" with AC operating for "white noise". Otherwise, convenient dining close by both restaurants and fast food. Very high price though for this area.

Room Tip: Ask for top (4th) floor facing "Green Mill" restaurant to minimize road noise and people w...

Stayed here 2x's. Rooms are very roomy and extremely clean. Price is average. Not much to choose from as far as dinner options. (KFC). Breakfast is served starting at 630. Not 600 as notated in the hotel guest book. AC units are quiet. Beds are comfortable.

Used to staying in Starwood, took a shot at this hotel because Starwood not available in the area. Had 7 of us on the trip, and got the 3 queen bed, and sofa pull out option.

As you walk in, the bathroom is on the left, and there is a little microwave and fridge, and what you could call a small tv room. Pull out sofa was there, with a TV and a chair / table.

Then there was a set of double doors, and beyond was a large bedroom with 2 queen beds and TV. Beyond that was another single door, and a small bedroom in there.

Place was clean, and fresh. Bedroom with 1 bed was too small. The walls were paper thin, and you could hear every step, bang, TV from lobby, and people above us.

The 1 bathroom was very basic, and small. For 7 people, there should have been 2 bathrooms.

I rated this a "4" star because it was clean, reasonably priced, free (good breakfast), and people were very friendly.

We slept well, because we turned the fan on to drown out the noise.

I hope this review helps you.

Room Tip: Stay away from lobby

Headed to Winona for a Horse Show at the MN Equestrian Center and didn't have high expectations for the Holiday inn Express. Pleasantly surprised! Rooms were really nice - beds comfortable. Breakfast was included - nice selection and pretty good. Can't complain with 3 kids, it was the easiest and FREE is always great!

Dinner at the Green Mill was across the parking lot and handy - (Ask for a room on the opposite side of the hotel - the party goes on until 1:30AM... not too bad but if you are a light sleeper you will hear it.

Pool was pretty decent for a "smaller" So. MN town hotel. Little kids great. Big enough to relax in the hot tub and there is a sauna (needs more heat but OK)

Staff was friendly helpful.

Closest hotel to the MN Equestrian Center that is 5 miles up the road. No other hotels are on the way. The equestrian center is pretty impressive too.

All in all - great value - facility and staff - would stay there again without the need to look for another place. Pretty much has what you would want.

Room Tip: Hotel on opposite side from Green Mill Restaurant - a little noisy and in the summer with the patio...

We did a three-day get away with our dog and this was a great place to stay. Wonderful service and very accomodating when it comes to pets (there is a nightly fee however). The room was clean, as was the rest of the hotel. Breakfast buffet is typical HIE quality and types of food. Location is good - easy drive to downtown. While located off the highway, noise was not a factor. Very good hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times while in town for family events. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, the pool area is nice for kids, and best of all - the breakfast buffet is fabulous and has something for everyone to enjoy. Fresh fruit, bagels, pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, toast, juices and milk and WARM cinnamon rolls. A very good value for a traveling family.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2011

We stayed for one night at the Holiday Inn Express Winona. We went with another couple to celebrate his b'day - so it was a last minute plan!!! Holiday Inn has a location that is close to quite a few things (rest., Target, Green Mill, etc). It was MEA weekend and to our surprise, homecoming weekend for the College as well! They were full and we were told we got the last two King/ non smoking beds in the hotel (but they never mentioned the homecoming part - nor MEA!) - so no special rates - not AAA or ARP - nothing! The rate was $129.99/nite. Kind of high for the hotel, but it was a nice hotel. We were on the third floor and our friends were on the 4th. . . this was the closest they could get us they said. They (our friends) had children on both sides of them and said they could hear them a little . . . . Our room was very quiet! . . . all night! . . . We used the pool - which was nice size. It actually has two pools - a childrens with a slide and the 'adult' pool which goes from 3' to 4'. . . . we didn't actually go in the pool as it was cold. They have a nice size hot tub and we used that! They provide towels at the pool. There is a sauna down there also. . . . it was unbelievabley not busy!!! There is a game room off the pool area and an exercise room which we can't speak of as we did not use this. Our room was a typical hotel room - spacious enough. Included free Wifi hook up, a small refrig,, microwave and coffee maker. The bathroom is basic - one sink - tub/shower combo. It had a flat screen TV in there that we never used! Incl. a hair dryer and a magnified mirror for make up. The bed was comfy enough - not outstanding, but not uncomfortable either. They have soft and firm pillows and these are clearly marked on your bed. They also have a flat screen TV in the room. Both of us had very clean rooms. In the morning they have a breakfast included - the usual, fake scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, milk, juice (the oj was bitter), pancakes and cinn. rolls - fruit etc. Good enough to get you started on your day, but nothing to brag about! . . . . Across the street is the Plaza hotel with the Green Mill attached. We got into the Green Mill right away - waitress came right away, but the wait for the pizza was long - we were told there were a lot being ordered due to the homecoming . . . maybe so???? (We were not given any coupons for the GM or any other location for eating.) Everyone we talked to at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating. We'd stay here again. The only issue I've had is I lost something (not their fault of course), have called and I do not get a reply. . . . . perhaps they didn't find it, but a courtesy call back would be nice. . . . .
Again, would stay here again.
This is a basic hotel room, clean and friendlly staff. . . . Hope this helps!

Follow up: I did call again two days later and the front desk person did talk to housekeeping and gave me an answer that no one had found it. . . . . housekeeping never did call back.
