“Not bad, not bad at all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We stayed here for three nights while my husband attended a training about six blocks away; the location was close to his training site, but it was quite a trek to any of the kid-friendly Twin Cities activities that we scheduled (Children's Museum, Mall of America, MN Zoo, etc). For that reason,w e probably won't stay here again unless we have business in this part of the metro area; it's also a couple of miles to the interstate, so there's not really the easy-on, easy-off appeal of many other regional hotels.

The pool area looks nice, even if you do feel a little exposed while using it -- all rooms overlook the area, and breakfast seating surrounds it, plus the acoustics are just terrible. Sound travels! And the area was busy every night, making it impossible for us to put our toddler to sleep before 10 pm on any of the three nights we were there. Also, there are no windows to the outside world, which takes a little getting used to!

Breakfast was OK; there was a very sour woman working the breakfast are on our first day, stomping around and generally acting put-upon. The tables were sticky. On days 2 and 3, different, much friendlier women were working, and everything was clean and orderly. The variety isn't great. But there are fridges in the rooms and a microwave in the breakfast area, so you can supplement with your own food if you'd like.

The staff was great about letting us stay in the same room for 3 nights, even though we'd booked a different room for the 3rd night (personal use, not business). But they could have given us more warning about the parking lot resurfacing taking place while we were there... we returned from a long day of travel to find most of the spaces blocked off, with no indication of where we could park instead. This could have been handled better.

All in all, it wasn't a terrible visit. Plenty of pillows, towels, blankets on the bed. A decent amount of space for your suitcases, and there is a nice-looking rooftop restaurant that was busy every night. McDonalds right next door. Nearby Walgreens and downtown shopping area.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the pool area, which is open until 10 pm for kids and 11 pm for adults. We had a...

Thank you so much for letting us know your concerns. We do have many rooms that do not over look the pool area and that have windows that do open to the outside, please next time let our front desk staff know your preference and they will do everything possible to make sure you have a room that you like. I have discussed your other issues with our staff and have reiterated that our goal is to offer the highest quality of customer service at all times. Again thank you for taking the time to submit your review as this is our greatest tool to continue to improve and meet our guests needs.

It was a very clean and nice hotel. The on-site restaurant was very good. Continental breakfast had the usual rolls and waffles, plus scrambled eggs and bacon. The only thing that could use improvement is that the front desk doesn't seem to have very good communication with the shuttle drivers, but that was minor. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

I want to take this time to let any future customers know how please our family is with this hotel! Time and time again the staff at this hotel are wonderful and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure the customer is provided with everything needed during their stay.

We found this hotel from a tragic event, a tornado hit our city and we needed temporary housing. From that event we have come to love all that the hotel and restaurant have to offer. Many of our family members have stayed at this facility; from our rebuilding of our house to just general vacations... and we have never been disappointed in the five years we having been using this hotel.

About two years ago, we were moving out of the country. We decided to stay at the hotel for the week between the house sold and flying out of the city. The woman at the front desk upgraded us to a suite which was a wonderful surprise (I think our ten bags of luggage may have helped her view our need for more room). But that is a perfect example showing that this hotel goes above and beyond to service their customers.

Now we have our yearly summer visits with friends in the area and will stay at this hotel. We are loyal customers of this hotel, because of the friendly staff, the wonderfully remodeled facilities, the fabulous food at the restaurant and in general the overall wonderful services that this hotel provides.

I love this hotel and location. It's been around for a long time and the have done a great job updating an older building. The rooms have nice top of bed ensembles but the sheets are rough. We had two rooms and one of them had a broken door chain. The exits to the outside were not well maintained and you could see that it wasn't just from the night before. The staff is awesome. I go to the rooftop bar at least once a month in the summer time and alway have a great time there. The housekeeping is ok. That's a hard job and to do it well the staff needs good support to get it all done. You can't rush a well-done room and you have to provide more when maintaining an older building. Give the housekeeping and maintenance right resources(more people and more money) to get everything up to par.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms are fun for loud people. Keep that in mind if you want something quiet.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your comments we greatly appreciate them as this is how we can keep learning and improving. We are constantly working on making our guests stay the best it can be. We have started a new program helping our guests have a restful sleep by providing ear plugs on the nightstand with fun facts on how to fall asleep. We have contacted our carpet cleaning company to address the extra foot traffic in the stairwells and hallways now that Rudy's Rooftop is open for the summer. We have also contacted our design team to replace any carpet that needs to replaced in the stairwells. I have discussed the sheets with housekeeping so they can adjust the settings for a softer finish. We take great pride in offering the highest quality of service to all of our guests, and we really take all comments to heart.
Please visit again soon and know that you can always contact me directly.

As a new member to Best Western's Rewards program, I recently concluded a leisure/business trip to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and chose to stay at this property located at White Bear Lake. I don't usually write reviews on hotel stays, but I wanted to express my gratitude to the staff and owner of the property for making my recent trip a very much comfortable and, overall, pleasant experience while I was in the state. From my initial early check-in and being met by a smiling front-desk attendant - Tracy, to my interactions with Nick Giusti, Guest Services Manager, and Eric Perkins, General Manager, and the daily housekeeping and breakfast area attendants, they left me a very satisfied customer of both their hospitality and Best Western as a whole. The owner of the property, Mr. Foussard, has a nice team in place as I'm sure he knows. As the saying goes, "You never get a second chance at a first impression". Very true and very well done. Thanks again.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 weeks for work related reasons. Over all was a really nice hotel, although it had a few quirks. The staff there were all extremely friendly in the hotel from the maids to the resturaunt employees. There was some remodeling being done while there that made the place look even better. Rooms were really nice and comfortable. Too many pillows on the beds made it kind of a pain when you got 2 beds that makes for a mountain of pillows on the floor so you can be comfortable in the beds. They give you a little rubber ducky every day when they clean your room (I thought this was a nice touch to help make the hotel stick in your mind). The bar/resturaunt is very expensive and they do not give any kind of discount to the hotel guests. The first 3 weeks were great, but the 4th week the maid service was extremely lacking. Maids wouldn't have all the towels removed out of my room (even tho I kept them in a neat pile for them), would return back about 3:30 and they would still be working on the room, and I guess my biggest let down was walking in while they were still cleaning to find one of them useing my phone charger to charge their phone. I always kept my luggage locked up but that kind of makes me nervous as to what else this maid crew would use of mine while not there, but nothing was ever missing atleast. One more note the elevator is pretty much any good if you are carrying a bunch of luggage. It is very, very slow and is allot faster to use the stairs.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms near the pool. The walls are just windows towards the pool and you can't sleep...
