I grew up in this town. The whole town overlooks Leech Lake. A museum, restaurants, hotels, swimming, lakes, boating, town beach, some golf, churches, lots of outdoors stuff, and tons of shopping. Biking trail is also available...tarred;it starts in Bemidji, and goes to Brainerd, Mn.
Eelpout Festival in February brings tons of people into town, as well as the fourth of July day. This little town is hopping! I would say that the 'Chase on the Lake' has to have already been added to the Historical Resgistry by now. Great, and large size sportsman shop.
There is even a Vet in town. Lots of lakes, greenery, trees, tourism, and fun. There is also a casino hotel, (Norhtern Lights,) close by, as well as Moondance for kids fun. The Moondance also has a large concert that happens during the summer. Plenty to do here. Also about an hour or so away from the head of the Mississippi; 'Itasca State Park.'
