“In the heart of Walker”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

This hotel is right in town (not sure why, but we thought it was a resort more on the outskirts of Walker). No beach or path to walk along the lake, but great views from the restaurant. Our room was smallish, but plush and lovely with wonderfully-comfortable pillows. We enjoyed our stay.

We love Walker & this was our fifth trip to Chase for Moondance Jam. They are lucky to have a few VERY awesome employees (Amy, our bartender Wednesday night, and Cody who shuttled us to the casino) because the water temp in the hotel rooms was inconsistent, the wifi was also inconsistent, and the shuttle service had changed over which caused us a lot of anxiety.

Room Tip: If you like white noise while you sleep, their rooms are usually great for it; however, if you don...

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, I will be sure to show this to Amy and Cody. We are sorry to hear that part of your stay was not up to expectations. Next year we have a plan in place for a shuttle service as the person that usually handles the shuttling for Walker during Moondance was unable to do so this year.

Our room was very small - but quiet and comfortable even though we overlooked the AC units for the hotel. No space to walk around, AC cycled noisily. Nice restaurant/bar facility, although my husband passed on breakfast buffet due to Cheese on eggs. Easy walk to other restaurants and shops. Can get bikes to take advantage of the bike trails along the shore. Slips available for your boat if fishing is your thing. Prices reasonable and staff was very friendly and helpful. Pool/hot tub on site (we didn't use). Also spa services.

Room Tip: lake view rooms are more expensive . . but may be worth it!

We just came back from spending five days in Walker, hoping for a week of kayaking and biking around the beautiful Leech Lake area. While the view from our balcony 2 bedroom condo was beautiful, we were deeply disappointed to find out the free kayaks available to guests were for small kiddie size kayaks with small paddles used in a small roped off area! We did try finding other places to rent a kayak from, but none were available in the area which was further disappointing! The biking was fun, and we spent our planned days on the water, on a bike doing all the surrounding trails. Due to the lack of things to do in the area we cut our vacation short by three days and came back to the Twin Cities to complete our vacation.
Chase could be a five star hotel, but it misses the mark in some areas. The second bedroom was at the back of our condo with no windows and no ceiling fan. I tried sleeping in their one night due to the loudness of our neighbors, but it was very stuffy and closed in. Our stall shower was missing a glass door and the water poured out onto the tile floor, even with the nozzle pointed towards the wall. It made for a dangerously slippery floor afterwards! There was also no place for your shampoo or soap inside the shower. The front desk people didn't seem to know much about the area or the kayaks so weren't of much help. We tried to 502 restaurant on two occasions, the first being an OK experience; the second we took our nearby family, and it was not a good experience. The shrimp was inedible and rubbery; the steak barely done. The service was slow and inexperienced. We had martini's both nights and felt they were weak and watered down.
We spoke to many locals while sitting on the docks in front of the hotel and they remarked the Chase is not what is used to be, and we would have to agree with them. It really isn't a 5 star.... but the views are inarguably fantastic!

Room Tip: A View of the lake... it's the best thing going for them!

We stayed in the corner double queen room which had two walls of windows and a lovely balcony. What a fantastic view. The outdoor dining and bar is also fabulous and the best happy hour in town. This is our third year at Chase on the Lake.

Went to visit the headwaters of the Mississippi River and decided to stay at this hotel. We had a great time. The room was nice, service great and wonderful location with Main Street of Walker within walking distance.
The hotel is located at the lake and you can dine or enjoy a drink while looking at the beautiful lake.

One thing took away a star. The restaurant is a bit dates and made me think of something from the 1970.

Regardless we enjoyed our stay and would come back next time we are near this location.

We have a cabin in the area and frequently visit the 502. We were deeply disappointed on Saturday, July 5th when we stopped for lunch with our family who wanted to treat us to lunch. There were 2 families ahead of us at the host table, both families left. We were told there was a 45 minute wait. Half of the tables were empty. We asked why all of the empty tables and were told they were only half staffed and couldn't accommodate all of the tables. This was a huge holiday weekend for the city of Walker and they weren't fully staffed? We sat in the bar area and waited for 10 minutes for someone to serve us and never did, we left and had lunch at the Lucky Moose. In those short 10 to 15 minutes that 3 families were waiting to be seated - all 3 of the families left and the Chase lost the business. I know all other weeks the Chase has a slim crew, but I don't understand it for the 4th of July weekend.
