We went for the memorial for the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. They toll the ship bell 29 times, once for each lost sailor and then light the light for a couple of hours. We were able to go to the top of the lighthouse while lighted, and that was very interesting. The foghouse was OK, with historical information and they sounded a 1/4 volume replica of the foghorn upon request. The visitor center had even more information, including a movie and the kids really enjoyed the Lego replica of the lighthouse.
The best part was going to the lake's edge on the way back to the parking lot and watching the light sweep through the fog while the 10 foot waves crashed against the rocks. We could only imagine what it would have been like that fateful night of 11/11/75, with 30 foot waves and a large storm.
