“A brief stop near the highway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

This is worth the $5 admission.
You can walk over the shoreline rocks directly to the waters edge,
with a clear view of the lighthouse.

“Really nice with a couple of great day hikes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

If you plan to camp here, book your site early during the summer! This park is busy, and it's busy for a reason. The lighthouse is really cool but the hiking for me is the cooler part. My family has been coming here for years.

There are cool little beaches- I recommend hiking down to the beach (lots of stairs but worth it!) for a cool view of the light house, also we really like the Day Hill hike a lot- it's short but affords a neat view and at the top of Day Hill there are ruins from a hearth there.

Don't forget about Split Rock during the winter! Once, we saw a baby porcupine right next to the Day Hill trail.

“Very nice park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

The lighthouse is a must stop at least once. The fee to get in prevents me from returning very often. It can be crowded in the summer and fall. I've been to the annual lighting of the light in November to commemorate the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. if you are able hike down the stairs and look up at the light house.

“Love Split Rock”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

There is so much history here, it's a must stop while going up the north shore. We have gone every fall when we drive up to look at the fall colors. You can tour it yourself, or with a guide. We usually just do our own tour. You can go all the way up the Lighthouse, see the old buildings, living quarters, and I highly suggest walking the trail down to the lake. There is a short cut coming up--it look like a ton of stairs, but there is rest spots that over-look the lake and great to take pictures from.

“Great history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

This was a really neat lighthouse to visit and see the history. Amazing to hear about how it was built with everything brought in from the sea. Absolutely gorgeous views from there. Walking through the caretakers cottage was probably the most interesting part. Amazing that there still is a fulltime caretaker living there. Would definitely recommend visiting.
