“Take a tour of Split Rock Lighthouse State Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

I took the guided tour of Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and was very impressed. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the park and the area. The tour included information on the lighthouse, keeper's house, and Lake Superior. I toured all of them after the guided tour. Besides information on Split Rock, she gave information on where to see the best fall colors and other places to sightsee. There are many walking trails to explore in the park. The museum store is a good place to pick up souveniers and see a few exhibits. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is only 6 1/2 miles from Gooseberry Falls. I recommend visiting both parks on the same day.

“Don't miss this if on the North Shore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

The visitor center is run by the MN Historical Society and is beautifully don. the film is weel sorth the 20 minutes.
Visitng the lighthouse itself is reat and be sure to climb the stairs to the top.
Also visit the house and talk with the costumed guides on the grounds, we learned a lot.
The views of the lake are spectacular.
If you want to hike to see the Falls you need a MN State Park permit which is separate from visitng the lighthouse.

“Camping!!!! Great views and access to the Gitche Gume...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

We camped at this wonderful state park for 6 days. Be prepared to endure noise from the Hwy.

All of the lake side cart-in only camp sites are amazing and quite private... some more private than others, but, compared to most campgrounds, all would be considered extremely private.

We stayed at #4, which is closest to the shower/bathroom facilities--especially nice if you have little kids. It is a huge, secluded, comfortable campsite (probably could fit 4 big tents if it were allowed) with a slight lake view. A short few yard scramble up a trail gives great private views of lighthouse and lake.

I visited a few other sites while there:

#1, 2, 3, & 4 are all on the "easy" side of the campground (the rest require a more strenuous jaunt with the cart to get to)... These 4 sites have easy quick access to pebble beach--very nice feature.

#1: the most secluded and private on the "easy" side. I would try this one next time.

#16: The most awesome site at the park, but, requires that more strenuous jaunt with the cart.

#17: almost as good as 16. These two (16 and 17) are off on their own together---would be great for a group who needs two sites.
