My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the William Sauntry Mansion. It was extremely delightful in every aspect. Tom and Sandy were welcoming and friendly, going out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. Tom offered a free upgrade which we gladly accepted. The home has been beautifully tended to with authentic replication of the era as well as being updated with modern day conveniences.

Sandy is a marvelous cook and could hold her own on her cooking skills alone. Each breakfast was quite substantial, elegantly prepared, and artistically presented. We really appreciated all the effort that went into the preparation.

The room we stayed in was exquisitely decorated with all the charm of it's period. We found the room to be very clean and comfortable during our stay and really enjoyed the whirlpool tub (Something I'm sure Wm. Sauntry would have loved too, had they been available back then!)
and fireplace.

We stayed here every month for more than a year for work and found the hospitality welcoming; the food delicious, from simple and elegant egg dishs to sinfully delicious deserts; and the rooms were lovely, with Swiss showers or deep dish tubs. Every meal or snack was homemade and sophisticated. The moring conversations with Tom and Sandy were lively and interesting. You are still the best and Mike and I miss you.

“Great Accomodations and Breakfast”

We recently stay at the Wm. Sauntry Mansion, our first time at a B&B, and had a great stay. The rooms had everything you could imagine, beautiful bed, private bathroom, fireplace and whirlpool. The breakfast provided by Sandy, 5 course btw, was outstanding, better than what you would get in a 5 star hotel. The innkeepers Tom and Sandy are very hospital and outgoing. If you ever get near Stillwater, MN, I would definetely recommend a stay at the Wm. Sauntry Mansion.

We recently stayed at the William Sauntry Mansion when attending a wedding in Stillwater. We had problems right away when booking our room. I booked in 5 months in advance and when I called to confirm my reservations, Tom didn't seem to have any idea who I was...even though I had emails to confirm our communication. Reluctantly we signed up AGAIN for a room. When we arrived to check in, our room had been given to another couple staying there- even though OUR credit card info was holding it for us. Tom was flippant about the ordeal and offered us a different room that cost $50 MORE. I don't care how great the breakfast is or how spectacular the home is, if a B&B owner doesn't treat his guests with respect, he's running a pretty crappy business. We will not be staying there in the future and we will direct our friends elsewhere.

This review is an unfair, and partially untrue, representation of the facts. What occured was that a bride booked the entire house for her wedding party, with the bride and groom also staying with us. The bride reserved all six rooms and guaranteed them with her credit card. The guests were to subsequently phone us and reserve rooms providing their credit card information.

This guest did call and reserve a specific room, that is true. However, on the day of the wedding, the bride and bridesmaids wanted to check in early to dress and prepare for the ceremony. When they arrived (at noon, four hours before our check in time), not all rooms were ready. The bride made the decision to put two of her bridesmaids in an available room so they could get dressed.

Later, when the the complaining party arrived, their reserved room was occupied by the bridesmaids and the bride directed me to put them in another, more expensive room, with the bride agreeing to pay the difference in cost.

In essence, the complaining party was provided a free upgrade. They were not charged for the difference in price. The next day, the bride was provided with an invoice for her share of the room charges. And, in fact, we did not charge her for the different rate because the the bride and groom were a really nice young couple (the groom has subsequently deployed to Afghanistan) and the groom's father is the Sauntry's plumbing contractor.

I'm sorry the complaining party didn't enjoy the upgraded room at the same price. But I would make the same decision again. The last thing I wanted was a bride, stressed out over room assignments, two hours before her wedding and one week before her husband's Afghanistan deployment.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in the Beltram room and it was beautiful. I really enjoyed the whirlpool tub and the fireplace was very nice. The decor of the room and especially of the main level of the house was so awesome. The innkeepers were very friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was good--four course meal, the Finnish pancake was delicious! I would definately stay here again.
