“Wonderful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

Basic but clean comfy cottages. Good kitchen, dining and lounge facilities. Comfy lounges. Small but clear TV. No SBS signal.

Get the higher up cottages for even better views.
We stayed as a couple and LOVED watching the sunset over the bay sipping on champagne.
SUNSETS in TASSIE are amazingly beautiful.

Heating was great. Great verandah. Great private parking.
GREAT cafe next door with amazing food - for dinner as well. EAT HERE!! Friendly service.

Larger bed (small queen) was in second room not with the view. Only a small double in front room with view.

Bed could be a little better. Electric blankets good for winter. If a large queen was put in a renovated front room, this would be best.

Good basic bathroom but clean and neat. Good size shower with good pressure.
Would return for the location, food in cafe and value. But small rooms and beds in our particular cottage would make it a little less enticing for extended stay. Needs updating in this area!

Buy your food and supplies in St Helens before arriving. A good IGA and wine shop in town.

Room Tip: see if you can check out the other cottages - they have a few - before deciding on one.

While this house does not have large bedrooms the queen ensemble ,double ensemble, bunks with deep mattresses are all new.
Th flat screen T.V. is not small but is not masive either as the room does not allow it.

We stayed in this accommodation recently in Dotril Cottage, which is on the lower part of the steep hill where the cottages are set out. Despite this, the view from both the loungeroom and the bedroom was beautiful, looking out over the broad sweep of beach which is the beginning of the Bay of Fires stretch in this part of Tasmania. The accommodation was quite acceptable in terms of being reasonably well equipped, very clean etc., but overall a bit dated and in need of a makeover. Given its position, it would really benefit from this as the location is so good. We stayed in autumn so didn't use the verandah at all, which would have added to the appeal in the warmer weather no doubt. The morning after we arrived however was a very bright sunny day and it was lovely to look out at the view.

Room Tip: Depending on the number to be accommodated, there seem to be a variety of cottages to choose from an...

This cottage is very popular and kept immaculate with everything upgraded as required. some repeat guests will always want this specific cottage.
It is sea side accommodation that was built to depict the fishermen's cottages and uphold the heritage values of Binalong Bay.
It has a most magnificent view.

What a wonderful location. We had the Kingfisher cottage at the bottom of the hill, but the view from the front balcony was gorgeous, and I could quite easily imagine myself waking up to such a view for the rest of my life. The cottage was very nice and well appointed, but the location was just perfect.

We were so thrilled to find this accommodation. As we were not sure where we would end up for the night, we had not booked anywhere, and we were depressed at the sight of both the swampy town and some of the accommodation being offered in St Helens. Even an on-site caravan villa unit was going to be $180, with each villa jammed next to each other, with no view, in an awful spot.

Then we drove out to Binalong Bay - just 8 kms away. What a difference! An absolutely beautiful spot, right on a magnificent beach. We were thrilled to find that there was one night available at the Character Cottages, which were just perfect and at a reasonable price for the standard. Spotlessly clean, unpretentious, well maintained and views to die for! Right up the beach to the Bay of Fires. There was even a gorgeous cafe just a few steps away for meals.

This had to be our very best unexpected find of our trip to Tasmania and we are so grateful to have come across it! Early next morning we went for a beautiful walk along the beach which was like paradise.

Thank you to the owners for doing such a great job.

Room Tip: All the cottages looked fabulous.

Thankyou for your kind words.
It is extremely gratifying to know you have guests leave having had a wonderful experience.
We work hard at this and it would be pointless if they did not have a great time.

We stayed for 5 nights over New Years Eve across the road from the beach (literally) and high above with a view to die for. The accomodation was great with everything you could think of there. A great washing machine in the cottage (which was in great demand after all our travels and the beach towels.) Everything- salt and pepper, great kitted out kitchen, good fridge with plenty of room, plenty of towels, great shower, BBQ, verandahs.
All on the doorstep of an amazing beach.
One downer, the weather changed constantly and when the wind blew the stingers came and we got bitten. Take vinegar and dowse the sting on the beach, a quick trek to the shower and it was all forgotten. Two of us went for a walk along the beach one dusk and saw 10 dolphins that came right in and surfed the waves and jumped out of the water. A magical moment in a magical place. There's a cafe at the bottom of the hill thats really good. Or St Helen's is just down the road with great food options. Banjo's steak and bacon pies were a favourite. Internet is at St Helen's.

Self contained spacious "apartment" with elevated views overlooking the beautiful beach across the road.

Native animals abound and just the place to relax.

Best Dinner food options are 10 km away in St Helens (The Blue Shed restaurant was very nice).

There is a cafe next to the accommodation that has just opened. Limited menu but food ok. Pricing needs to be addressed at cafe. Some items way over priced (eg $8 for 1.25l soft drink bottle) but other items cheap or reasonable

Sorry about the cafe but it opened in the very peak of season and the lessee was thrown in the deep end to say the least..
It has gone ahead in leaps and bounds and is today very popular with great food, service and friendliness.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2010

My friend and I stayed in Kingfisher Cottage and found it to be very comfortable and not over-priced, considering that it is fully self-contained and has a view of the beach. Not the most stylishly decorated, but fully stocked with necessities and a short walk from the sand and water. This "town" is pretty sleepy and there's not much to do other than walk along beaches, so don't expect much excitement!! We enjoyed it though.

Thankyou for taking the time to supply a review. It is appreciated.
It is lovely to hear positive feed back and that guests have relaxed and enjoyed the area.
However, feedback pointing out shortfalls are just as important and give us the opportunity to explain why some things are as they are plus address issues that we are able to.
