“Friendly B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Recently stayed at the Bluebell for one night with my Husband after a family party. Room was lovely, looked all freshly decorated. Nice friendly Landlord.
Could benefit from providing a cooked breakfast, as cereal and a pastry doesn't really hit the spot after a night out :-)
Highly recommended.

I recently stayed here for a two night stay whilst visiting family locally. I found the Blue Bell via the local council tourism website and, after 20 years of business travel and hotels/B&B's, my standards are pretty high. To say the Blue Bell now ranks in the top 10 of the thousands of places I've stayed, is no exaggeration..

Joanne and Ivor, the geniuses behind this real gem of a traditional English pub & B&B were not only very welcoming and helpful but made me feel like one of the locals. The pub serves fine ales, the locals are wonderful and the room is spotless.

We stayed for four nights at the Bluebell and found it to be a very friendly pub with a congenial landlord and landlady. The beer was excellent.and the accommodation roomy and comfortable. Continental breakfast OK. We will be making a return visit.

We arrived around 3pm and were immediately welcomed to our room which was spotlessly clean and well equippped. Provided in the room was an abundant supply of teas, coffees, hot chocolate as well as a continential breakfast for the next morning consisting of danish pastries, fruit juice, yoghurts and fruit which lasted us well until mid afternoon.

We would highly recommend staying here and the price was very reasonable too compared to other places we have stayed that were not up to this standard.

We were going to an evening wedding at Barnby Moor and were looking for a b&b close by....we found this on a website and it was the closest to the wedding venue so we booked it. We weren't expecting much as we couldn't tell from the photos what it was really like and Retford itself didn't look up to much.....So what a surprise when we arrived!! The owners are sooooo friendly, the rooms are converted outbuildings, possibly stables and are extremely clean, very comfy, bright and airy and just lovely facilities. We were disappointed we weren't going to get a full english the next morning but the continental breakfast in the room was great - wide cereal selection, variety of fresh fruit, pain au chocolat, yoghurts, fresh orange juices and a wide variety of hot drinks. The Inn next door is lovely - a proper pub. One of the locals offered us a lift to the wedding venue but we ended up jumping in a taxi with the owners' two sons! Check-out was whenever we wanted really so we enjoyed a lazy morning and left about 11am ish. Would definitely recommend to stay here and would be tempted to go back myself and take a trip to Lincoln for the day that's quite nearby....Oh and I'll just say as a tip to the owners - the photos on their site do not do the place justice at all!

The hosts were very friendly indeed, The rooms were spotlessly clean and very well furnished. We loved the fact that the continental breakfast was already in your room for the next morning. A small fridge was supplied to keep milk and drinks cool. We had an enjoyable stay overall and would definitely recommend it to others.

I chanced upon the Bluebell while looking for somewhere to stay, and it was the best "chanced upon" that I've had yet. A regular traveller to the Retford area, the Bluebell is now firmly my favourite of all the places I've stayed.

The rooms are incredibly clean, and are well fitted out with very comfortable beds. Everything looks brand new. Spotless bathrooms, plenty of storage space too. The rooms have their own front door into a courtyard, making it feel a lot more private than you would be used to. Quiet, too, as the rooms are set in their own building, rather than joined to the Inn.

The owners are friendly, approachable and would go out of their way to help - my example being that the landlord Ivor drove me into Retford for dinner after I made the mistake of assuming that the inn did evening meals (they don't at the moment, but will be soon!). Also good for a bit of chat!

The breakfast was continental, but rather than "continental" meaning a pastry and a wee bowl of Coco Pops, the breakfast at the Bluebell had loads of hearty cereals, orange juice, croissant, jam and fruit. I've a big appetite, but was never left feeling hungry. Plus your room has a proper table and chairs - there's no eating off your lap here. Oh, and there's a real fridge too - too often something that is missed by other places.

The location is ideal if you are driving - I gave location 4/5 "stars" as it's a bit more fiddly if you're getting taxis around the place, but it's not really that far from Retford at all, only about a 5 minute drive.

The overall feel? Stay here and you'll think you'd discovered a wee gem. Not far from Retford, but far enough to feel like you're somewhere a bit special. And if you're as lucky as I am, you might end up out on the street watching the local(ish) Morris dancers running through their repertoire... an unexpected and thoroughly enjoyable experience for a Glasgow chap!

I would definitely stay again and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: I've only stayed in room 4 (furthest from the road) but going by the room sizes they're all...
