“Very nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Very nice stay for a great price! Like others have said, it a 7 unit motel and a stand alone cottage. The room and grounds are very well kept, very comfortable. Some have said the bathrooms are small. Being 6' tall I found them to be just fine. The location worked out well for us. The room has a coffee pot, small fridge, and a microwave. So what do you need to know before checking in? Bring food or snacks, there isn't much in Silver Bay for dining options. You will have to go to Beaver Bay which has some really nice places to eat and shop. As with most of the North Shore, you will be off the grid. Cell phone signals are hard to come by and no internet here so plan accordingly. They do have Dish Network so lots of choices on TV but if you want to watch your own movies, bring a laptop with a DVD drive. I brought books for down time so I was happy and recharged! Would we stay here again? Ubetcha!

A group of us decided we wanted to check out the ATV trail system around Tettegouche State Park. The Whispering Pines was the perfect place for us to stay. Room to park the pickups & trailers. Able to drive our ATVs right up close to our rooms. The rooms were clean and reasonably priced, though rustic. The deck and the campfire were a great place to congregate in the evening. The owners were very accommodating to our group.

We have stayed at Whispering Pines Motel on numerous occasions over the years. It's a nice, cozy, reasonably priced place to stay and a great location for exploring the North Shore of Lake Superior. Friendly owners, fun times around the campfire with other guests, just a stone's throw from Tettegouche State Park and Palisade Head.

My fiance surprised me with a trip to the north shore spontaneously one day. I was a bit skeptical at first because the place we were staying was listed as a "motel" and I'm used to staying in "fancier" places I guess. We ended up renting the Honeymoon Suite which was a cozy little private cabin, perfect for the two of us. Robert, the owner, makes you feel very much at home and is very helpful to local spots to check out. The bathroom is a tad small, but as long as it's not an extended stay it's just fine. The room is very rustic and log cabin like, perfect for a romantic evening. And I love the stove heater, it creates awesome ambience! The location provides a gorgeous overlook of Lake Superior and is also nestled into the woods away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Originally I wouldn't have been able to rate the motel aside from the Honeymoon Suite... but my friends stayed in a room up there with us this weekend and I was able to check out their room. It was also very well taken care of and quite roomy. Defiintely a good bang for your buck!

The best part about the location of this place? You're just down the road from the greatest breakfast in the area! About 6 miles north on Highway 1 is a town called Finland... there is a restaurant there called "Our Place." It has the best breakfast around! Definitely give it a shot! Also, make sure to read the "cabin memories" book in the honeymoon suite... it gives a lot of good advice about local secret spots from tourists, I've written in it twice now in hopes of providing some good insight for other travelers.

Room Tip: Honeymoon Suite Cabin is private and cozy!

We had a group get together in the area and picked Whispering Pines because it was dog friendly. Rooms were very clean, beds comfortable and the property was well maintained. The rooms are smaller but as the grounds and deck were so enjoyable we were only in them to sleep! The grounds include a nice deck and two fire pits with plenty of seating which were great for evening fires. There isn't air conditioning in the rooms but with the windows open and fans blowing the rooms were always cool. The owner was great to work with, both when we called with questions and in person. He and his dogs became honorary members of our group. The motel was within walking distance of some trails and a short drive to many attractions, restaurants and convience stores. We travelled with 8 adults and 3 dogs and this was the perfect place to stay! The motel is very dog friendly! All in all a fantastic place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone.

The place was wonderful. Peaceful and secluded. It was like camping but with a room. The owner was really nice. The bathroom was the right size. What a great place for so little cost.

This is a motel with basic accommodations. The location, however, is great for those who want to stay overnight here to get an early start on outdoors activities in Lake County. The rooms are clean and the price is about $50 lower than the nearby AmericInn. Plus, the owner is friendly and has a great bird-feeding set-up behind the office, for those interested in watching wild birds.
