You would think a hotel with a great location in a fine city would be extra sharp. This one is not. You pay a premium for a larger (370 sq ft, not THAT large) room, and we had a very comfortable bed, not a sleep number bed like other reviews state. When we checked in on a Saturday night, the front desk had three long lines. There were five weddings, and several events going on, so the lobby was extremely crowded and noisy. However, our room and floor were very quiet. We blissfully heard nothing all night long. Sunday breakfast buffet was a big disappointment, very expensive considering the French toast tasted like shoe leather, the bacon was barely cooked. Parking is also expensive ($17/day). WiFi is free but spotty reception. There is no on-demand/pay per view movie channel. The bathroom is smallish but nicely appointed, and was clean. The elevators ran slow because of all the weddings and events going on. It was difficult to adjust the room temperature. We like a cool room at night, and we were never able to get the room cool enough. The thermostat is outdated. We could characterize this hotel as serviceable, more expensive than most, and less value than most. The location is the best thing about it.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 19th floor, riverside. Beautiful view of the river.

This kind of recount of your experience with us is helpful for us, thank you for your honesty. It's important to us that we're able to grow and adapt as necessary, so we've planned to make some big renovations of our place. It's great to get feedback like this so we are aware of some key spots that we can focus our attention on.

With that said, I'm disappointed that you were let down by our breakfast buffet and have relayed your thoughts to our kitchen team.

It sounds like you had a pleasant night's sleep, though, despite numerous events going on, which is great to hear. I hope that you're able to visit us again down the line so that you can see your feedback put into action.

Sincerely,

Warren, it's a shame to hear that we just hit the average mark for you. We want our guests to have an unforgettable experience over here. Thank you for offering us some feedback, though. Any thoughts on how we can amp things up for you next time around? We're getting ready to start some renovations, and would love for you to visit our place again once everything is said and done.

Check in was pretty easy. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room had a decent view but wasn't "riverside". My only issue is the homeless people. They mostly come out at night, so I tried to stay indoors most of that time. They would sleep on the benches across the street (near the river) as well.

The one thing I absolutely loved was seeing the river early in the morning. Having to go to training classes, I was up fairly early. The view is amazing (to me, at least).

I would suggest having transportation when you stay here. There a quite a few places to eat within walking distance. Even a few places like CVS and Walgreens.

I believe there is a college or two in the area as well. I went out to eat with my coworkers, only to have the stereotypical "college kids" come in the restaurant being obnoxious and cussing...awkward moment there.

The room was really nice! Had some issues controlling the temperature in there. And for some reason I couldn't figure the reasoning for the toilet being pretty much under the sink.

Not sure if I would stay here again. That downtown area had a few pros and cons.

We agree, Brady, seeing the river is a very pleasant way to start off your day. I'm glad you got to enjoy that! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. We want people to feel comfortable here, so don't hesitate to give us a shout if you're having trouble with controlling the temperature next time.

As with any downtown area, there are a few drawbacks, like you mentioned — but we hope that our wonderful river views and helpful service are enough to bring you back. Additionally, we are making some exciting renovations, and we'd love for you to see what we do with our place!

Don't get ripped off by $17 on site parking. There is plenty of metered parking along the riverfront so long as you can be out by 8AM. Staff was pleasant, but not particularly solicitous. Stayed 2 nights but canceled the third because the price jumped over $50. Now staying in a much more comfortable Hilton near the airport. Cheaper AND parking is free and breakfast for 2 is included.

Hi Susan, thank you for offering us some feedback. It's disappointing to read that you decided to relocate after a few nights at our place, though. Being right off the river, and in a downtown location, we feel that we provide fair rates. I hope that you enjoyed your time in St. Paul. We're always looking to keep improving our guests' overall experience, and appreciate your helpful critique.

Best,

Stayed two nights on business in September 2013. Hotel overlooks the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul, next to convention center and other great stuff nearby. St. Paul is 'quiet' compared to its twin and seems safe and clean. Staff were friendly enough on check in and lobby and common areas were clean and modern. Te room layouts are a bit odd to say the least. The doors are flush to the walls (partitions, I would say) and if you look at the fire escape diagram on back of door you'll see what I mean. I was in a *21 room and it had a bathroom at entrance, then a long hallway to bed area with a blank space inexplicably in between. Most of the other room layouts seemed similarly to have corners, and other features built in. Not sure why, but it is what it is. I would suggest looking at floor layout in trying to get a room to suit your needs. If you can, go to the 22nd floor for the windows view. Fantastic!

Room Tip: Go high and riverside. If you cannot, take the free trip to 22nd floor to enjoy views of river valle...

We appreciate you sharing your thoughts — it sounds like you enjoyed your time overall, which is great to hear. We have a lot of upcoming renovations that we're very anxious about, including changing up some of those odd room layouts.

If you find your way back in St. Paul, whether for business, or for fun, we welcome you to stay with us again!

My friends and I stayed here to attend a concert at the Xcel Energy Center. I reserved a river view room. Check out was a breeze and no issue with the reservation. We got to the room and we were all amazed at how big the room was. It was more of a suite then a regular room. More then enough room for 4 adults to move around freely.

Would definitely stay here again with a group of people.

Not great, not poor. You could do worse in downtown St. Paul. The service at the registration desk was slow, personnel did not seem too concerned about speed with people waiting in line to check in or for other services. I waited forever just to get my balky key card recoded and then, ultimately, replaced. Inexcusable, really. But everything else was nominal. Agree with other posters, the parking is a rip off. If you have the luxury of a weekend stay, take your chances with the on street metered spots. We did, and with a mix of that and an event at the nearby Science Museum (vouchers for their parking garage), we managed to park all weekend free.
