I stayed at the St. Paul downtown Hilton because I was looking for a hotel that would be a close driving distance to the MN state fair. When calling the reservations line I was trying to use my St. Paul fun card (free from the St. Paul chamber website) but the lady on the phone was nice enough to tell me that I could book the State Fair special which was $139+ taxes (total of $157.07) which included transportation to and from the fair grounds, the complimentary managers reception, and full breakfast in the morning.
Check-in went fast - but they did not tell me how to get to the room or where it was best to park (until I asked). The suites are nice and clean (except for the dirty crumpled up kleenex under the table) but a little bit outdated. It was very nice to have a fridge and microwave in the room, along with a wetbar.
The bathrooms are very small. The tub is pretty old but was clean, the shower had nice pressure. Our toilet had very little flushing power and did get clogged in the morning.
The beds have very nice sheets and blankets so I got a good nights sleep. However, there is as others have said a lot of highway noise throughout the building (not much that they can do about that though).
The managers reception was complimentary from 5-7 pm. This is in the atrium which has a very nice feel to it (almost like you are sitting outside with very soothing noises from the waterfalls). They had a big plate of vegetables and ranch dip out and chips to snack on. You can order all the alcholic (or n/a)( beverages that you want for free, they were weak but who cares if it is free. You can even stock up by bringing them to your room and turning around and getting more :) Which again makes the refrigerator again helpful.
We were able to get free shuttle service around downtown and when you are ready to come back you just call them and they show up in 5-10 minutes. This came very hand and definitely saved a lot of mula from taxi rides. You have got to go to the candystore (Candylane) that is in downtown St. Paul - it is one block down from Walgreens by Wild Times restaurant. They have the best homemade candy and fresh specialty popcorn, for a very reasonable price.
The breakfast in the morning was very nice. They have cereal, juice, fruit, donuts etc. and then you move down the line to the omelet man for fresh cooked to order eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. This was very nice and much appreciated.
Overall we were very happy with our stay and would definitely stay here again. If possible you should request a room on the west side of the building (much better view). Oh yeah - and close to the elevators. They have a few elevators that are glass so that on your ride you can look around the atrium but it seems like you always had to wait a few minutes to get on.
The business center is very nice and complimentary. The pool is small but ok (not very deep). The hot tub again is small but nice. The exercise room is very nicely equipped and each of the treadmills has a tv to watch while you are working out.
Did not try the restaurant, lobby store, or bar.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in August so we could check out capitol, St. Paul's Cathedral, other downtown sites. Hotel was in okay location--sites above were walkable, but it was hot the afternoon we were there, so the few extra blocks to hotel made a difference. There was a wedding reception at the hotel the night we stayed, so atrium was really loud. Pool also overfull with kids. Evening reception is nice, as is breakfast, but a romantic hotel this is not. Overall, an average experience.

We have been to this Embassy suites on a few prior occasions. It is a classy looking hotel with great employees. We did not get the exact side of the building that we wanted, but the windows did not get much use anyway. They have a small pool and hot tub which we didnt use this time. (Broken arm on son prevented it)
They have a small welcome evening reception, with chips, salsa, and a decent supply of alcohol. They even have drinks for kids, like kiddie cocktails. My daughter loved the cherry in her drink.
The room was nice enough, clean and nicely decorated. There is two rooms in each suite. The bedroom is a good size room, then there is a door and a sitting room. There is a couch and comfortable chair . Theres' a bar area with a small fridge and microwave. There are 3 sinks in the room we were in.
In the morning they have a full breakfast , cooked while you wait. You can choose makings for omlettes, pankcakes, choices of meat. They have a ready made special which was scrambled ham and eggs with cheese. My daughter ate 2 servings of it. They have a grand choice of beverages. Everything from juices to chai tea and cocco, and a big pot of coffee.
We had heard about a family special which turned out to be a good deal. For an extra twenty dollars you get a free pay per view movie and a pizza dinner from room service. The pizza was very good, there is a Uno pizzaria on site.
My daughter loves siting with the live ducks swimming around in the pondworks in the atrium area. We had to drag her out crying this morning. She wasn't done visiting.
All in all some think it is a pricy hotel but when including drinks and a snack , 2 pizzas, 2 pitchers of pop and suite rooms with a full breakfast I don't think 129.00 is too much for a weekend over night getaway.

    • Liked — They really go that extra step, great breakfast and good service.
    • Disliked — The view from the bedroom window.

“Great hotel”

Embassy Suites Hotel St. Paul - Downtown

May 16, 2007

Great staff, This was our first stay here. We come to St Paul at least twice a year to visit our daughter. The suites were comfortable, even a vanity sink in the bedroom. Comfortable beds,
good working space and rooms fresh and clean. Restaurant food and price good but wine list overpriced.

The buffet breakfast is ample.

The hotet is a little out of the way but the service i and suites are superior to the holiday inn or Crowne Plaza.

Yes you can hear the highway traffic in the morning having lived in NYC we slept through.

I recently stayed here for a conference and and had a very good experience overall. I found the room to be spacious and good for both working and relaxing. I had positive interactions with the hotel staff. The only possible complaint is related to noise...there is a slight amount of highway noise in the room, and also, the cavernous interior of the hotel can get pretty noisy during happy hours and at other times. Much of the noise can't be heard in the guest rooms, but some does seep in.
