“Very Nice Hotel”

Embassy Suites Hotel St. Paul - Downtown

This was the 5th time I have stayed at this Embassy Suites, and it has always been a pleasant experience. The hotel has recently been through a mild remodel since my last visit, and it looks very nice. I have always enjoyed the breakfast and manager’s reception, the pool area is very nice, and the staff has always been very friendly. Compared to other Embassy Suites I have stayed at, the rooms at this one are a little small and you can get some freeway noise if you stay on that side of the hotel. Other than that it is a very nice hotel that I would highly recommend.

I just recently stayed at the Embassy Suites St Paul. The staff from the manager to housekeeping all seem interested in whether I was having a good stay. You don't run into this in many lodging establishments any more. The rooms all looked like they recently underwent a soft goods renovation. The beds were comfortable and everything was in good working order. The free breakfast was above average fare for being complimentary and had a good variety. The public areas were well maintained (albeit, 80's spanish decor), and I always seemed to run into hotel maintence working on projects. The only complaint I had was the highway noise. It didn't really bother me, but it might a light sleeper.

“Good But Not Great”

Embassy Suites Hotel St. Paul - Downtown

I agree with the previous review which was comprehensive and evenhanded. The lobby/atrium area is quite nice and the breakfast was very satisfying. I found the room a bit tired and disappointing, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean.

I had booked the VIP Floor but when I arrived the staff assigned me to the next lower floor. When I questioned this, they could not explain why the manager would have done this. They apologized, reduced the rate, and sent up some champagne (which I actually don't drink). They did everything they reasonably could to make me happy but I was still disappointed and curious as to what went wrong. The manager was not accessible all weekend, even Monday morning, and so I never found out.

The shuttle bus was very helpful for transportation to the EXCEL Energy Center for a concert. The staff printed out our boarding passes for our flight home. I found the staff to be very helpful in general.

We stayed for two nights while visiting colleges in the area. My only real complaint was that our room overlooking the freeway was noisy for sleeping. The hotel was not able to change our room location except to a smoking room which we declined. If you need quiet to sleep I would make sure to request a room on the side opposite the highway. Our king room was somewhat smaller than other Embassy Suites we stayed in. There was a large vanity and sink area in the sleeping room plus a separate full bath which was small. This hotel is an excellent choice for families. The indoor pool area is small but nice. Location is somewhat isolated, but there is a grocery store and diner/cafe within 2 blocks and multiple restaurant options within 6-8 blocks. Access to the freeway is very easy. Outdoor parking on site is provided for an $8 charge. There was a $10 charge for internet access. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. There is a restaurant and bar on site as well as the usual atrium breakfast which is included. I would not hesitate to stay here again as long as I could have a better located room.

We usually stay in downtown Minneapolis when we go to Vikings games, but since we were going to a Wild game as well, we decided to switch it up and stay in St Paul instead. We are so glad we did. For the money, this is the most bang for our buck we have had on a Twin Cities excursion (including MPLS Embassy Suites, Hilton, Marquette, Hyatt, Millenium).
Just getting to the point, this is a great hotel. It's well maintained, and it has a very nice decor. The french doors and multipaned windows make each suite seem a little more like a home than a hotel. The location is fine, within a mile of everything you need in downtown St Paul (an easy 15 minute walk to the Excel Center or Science Museum). And of course the free drinks/snacks every evening, and the free breakfast in the morning are always a great perk of Embassy Suites.
From now on, we will definitely make more Wild/Vikings combo trips and will continue to stay at this hotel.
