This is a typical Embassy Suites hotel with the central atrium and a Spanish-flavored decor. They have some ducks in the fountain in the atrium that are popular with little kids. It is located at the edge of the downtown area, close to the State Capitol and within a few blocks of the Fitzgerald Theatre. It is two blocks from the nearest entrance to the skywalk system. The suites were recently remodeled and the beds are luxurious. Everything worked in the suite.
As at all Embassy Suites, a full cooked breakfast, with eggs or pancakes cooked to order, is part of the deal, as is a manager's reception in the evening. The breakfast choices were pretty standard; the only fruit on offer was canteloupe, day after day. Complimentary USA Today is provided. Good selection of channels, and two TVs per suite.
There is a pool with some adults-only hours. A bar and restaurant are located in the hotel; there are some interesting restaurants in downtown St. Paul but they are a five or six block walk away.
The gym is subpar for a hotel in this price range. Three or four cardiovascular machines but no weight training equipment. The building is designed so that the stairwells put you out on the street through an alarmed door, so you can not walk from the lower floors to the lobby. The elevators are slow. However you can use the stairs to go from floor to floor.
All in all, a good predictable hotel, suitable for a business traveler (although a single person traveling on business probably doesn't need all the room) or a family. Staff were helpful and corrected a billing error promptly and cheerfully.
The hotel has a shuttle from the Minneapolis Airport but there is a charge for the service. Parking is available in an on-site lot for an extra charge.
