This place is so neat....its small but has lots of character. The service was great, the food awesome, the history behind the place even better. Highly recommend. :)

“Fun place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

I was in St Paul for a conference and just had to check this dinner out. It is like stepping back in time. With a food service background, I really enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching the cook in action. The place is VERY small, so every thing has a purpose and a place and the cook is very efficient and fast. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back.

“This place has character!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Having eaten at Mickey's years ago, we decided on a whim to make a return trip. This diner located right downtown St. Paul is open 24/7 and attracts locals and tourists alike. It is always full of jovial, colorful characters and the wait staff are no different! We were lucky to get a table without a wait as this place is very popular. There is a long counter you could choose to sit at, where you can watch the grill master flipping burgers or the wait staff scooping massive amounts of "Mickey's special beans: into side bowls to be served with burgers. The wait staff are fast, efficient, friendly with a touch of rough which makes the visit all worthwhile. These are hard working people wanting to make your meal enjoyable. They aim to please, with huge portions of fries. Our waitress brought my husband a pile of clam strips and then returned a little later with another huge bowl because she :didn't think there were enough" the first time! You will see all kinds of folks here - we have enjoyed huge breakfasts at the counter seats. People come for food first, experience second. It is a landmark for the city, try it, you won't be disappointed.

“The world needs more of these”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Ok, it's not 5-star. It's not even 3-star but dang, it's good. It is what it is. A diner. A true diner. Not some just open last year to try and make you think you went back in time diner. It's the real deal. The food is good, solid diner food. Breakfast all day. Eggs, sausage, bacon, omelets, and out of this world hash browns. The main event during lunch and dinner - burgers. Not fancy, new age burgers with avocado and sprouts but burgers. And solid fries. We went mid afternoon - not too busy but still could feel the vibe. My wife had the patty melt and i had a cheesburger. I had fries and she had the hashbrowns. I love places like this when I visit different parts of the country. While I love the local, more upscale side, too, it's fun to see how everyone else's greasy spoons stack up. And Michey's is perfect for what it is. Several others from our group went at different times and all loved it. And for people watching, it's awesome, too. Enjoy!

“Great for the nostalgia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

It's like going back in time to the 50's. A classic diner, beat up and showing its age, with classic greasy spoon food. There is a section on the menu for dinner items but the first line states that they serve breakfast all day. Get the message? The food was pretty good but not as great as diner memories. Some cleaning would be a good idea, but maybe they purposely don't to preserve the atmosphere. everything to do with the food itself was clean. The cups even showed no signs of tea or coffee stains that you'd expect after many uses.

The one thing that lives up to the memories is the cast of characters, both the workers and customers. At one table we saw a couple with less than one set of teeth between them while at the next sat a professionally dressed couple with two expensively dressed children. Think of it as more of an experience than a meal.
